I'd like to sign Kaspars to a 3 year contract.

Wait now. Can I have to give Kaspars a 1year, 2 year contract or does he qualify for a 3 year deal?

It seems like contracts for Kaspars can either be
1 year at 1.6m
2 years at 1.6m
2 years at 0.8m?
3 years at 0.6m? wouldn't this contract naturally be the best and cheapest contract
3 years at 1.6m?

I read the contract section and I'm not sure if I'm understanding the contract maximum years rule correctly.

Quote
Except for any contract inherited in 2010, all contracts must be no longer than five years.  Also, for a given salary, all contacts (extension, FA) have term limits (max years contract can be per the salary) as provided below.

Maximum Years
<= $1.4m, 2 years
$1.5m - $5.4m, 3 years
$5.5m - $7.9m, 4 years
>=$8m, 5 years (the overall limit)

your final bid of 1.6m was for the total contract value. so now you decide how to split it into years. you have to reach the min. of 1.5m per yr to offer a 3yr contract.

from ur list:
YES 1 year at 1.6m
YES 2 years at 1.6m
Yes 2 years at 0.8m?
NO 3 years at 0.6m? wouldn't this contract naturally be the best and cheapest contract
Yes 3 years at 1.6m?

hockeyfreak6000 or Gilly can correct me if i'm off.

I've seen other managers do this so I'll throw it out there.

Kaspars will get a 3 year contract through 2013-14 at the minimum of 1.5m per season.
Thanks
