Title: TB/CHC trade
Post by: tdtdtd on April 22, 2022, 09:38:30 PM
CHC gets:
Justin Verlander (22,095,000 2023) TB pays 21m in 2022, 16m in 2023

TB gets:
Dane Dunning (500,000 arb1)
2022 CHC 9th round pick

I trade Verlander for a young pitcher who will hopefully be better in a few years and cut some salary for next year.

I accept this deal. I thought if I am going to go for it this year why not add another very solid SP. I like Dunning but its the cost of getting Verlander. I get a lot of the cap paid as well so I have some flexibility.

Reason: League integrity.

Verlander is a top 15 pitcher currently, perhaps higher in a points league. Dunning is in the low 100s. Dunning's potential and contract do not make up the difference in ranking. Verlander is a top 225 Dynasty player, Dunning is unranked. A 9th round pick does not make up for any of these differences, in this league you are not going to draft a player in the 9th that has the potential to be either Verlander or Dunning. On top of all of this :TB: paying nearly all of the remaining salary on Verlanders contract puts this beyond a lopsided trade to damaging the competitive integrity of the league.

I really don't like vetoing and will mostly toss approvals but have to agree what has been said here and it's just tough one to justify for me.

Dunning can still get better no doubt, but so far he has not done much and has not been able to go deep in almost any start since 1st getting a shot in 2020. While he is fine as part of deal, still feels like it is still a light return only adding 9th. With less money paid and/or additional assets going back to TB it would make deal significantly better in my opinion.

Sorry but I will also  :veto:

Trade is officially vetoed.
