Title: Possible Salary Change
Post by: EastCoastGonzo on February 12, 2022, 03:18:34 PM
Now that the Salary Cap is set to automatically continue to increase each year it may be time to increase the minimum salary and ARB salary in the league. This is more of an option discussion opposed to a rule change vote. This may be affected by the outcome of MLB's new CBA as well.

Current ARB Salary

Year 1: $500k
Year 2: $550k
Year 3: $600k

New ARB Salary

Year 1: $600k
Year 2: $650k
Year 3: $700k

Seems a "wait and see" approach makes sense.   If the CBA reflects increasing ARB 123 then in a spirit of "realism" maybe we should move as well.   If there is no such move made by MLB and MLBPA, then I would say keep it as is.

JMO, if it's worth anything lol

Undoubtedly, they will raise the minimum.  I'm good with a wait and see.  I'm assuming there will be a lead time i.e. starts in 2023 or something like that?

It sounds like these new ARB numbers are light. Reports are the new minimum salary is going to be between $630k and $775k

I understand the reason for this question but since MLB has no cap (not really) and Armchair does, it's not really apples to apples.  Unless you want to increase the salary cap I don't think you should raise ARB contracts for ARB1 - ARB3.

We don't have a static salary cap. Our cap rises 5% each year, which is why we should raise the minimums.
