The Mets have agreed to acquire Adam Wainwright and Charlie Morton for two second and two fourth round picks over the next two years. The A's will cover the players salaries this year. The veteran pitchers are getting up there in age but their contracts are manageble. Morton was All-MLB second team in 2019 while Wainwright tied Fernando Valenzuela recently for 172nd best pitcher in MLB History.

The A's realize that they are on the fringe and need to make a move for the future. Wainwright and Morton are up there in age and could potentially retire at any point and the contracts just doesnt fit into the future plans of the organization, in an effort to help shed salary and get younger in the farm the A's acquired 4 picks in this trade that should help in the future
