Royals trade:
CI Votto, Joey, $6m (2023)
X-Votto, Joey, Cash Exchange, $6.0m in 2021
X-Votto, Joey, Cash Exchange, $6.0m in 2022
X-Votto, Joey, Cash Exchange, $6.0m in 2023

Giants trade:
OF Ramos, Heliot, $0.5m (P-n/a)

This trade is prompted by the plethora of players on the Giants roster who are out due to injuries or COVID protocols.  Giving up a prospect like Heliot Ramos for an aging player may seem extreme, but there are a few variables behind this move.  First, although Ramos has shown the potential to be a good MLB player, he seems to be the baseball equivalent of Jimmy Garoppolo?great talent, always injured.  He may well be a productive player for the MLB Giants, but the FGM Giants have other OF prospects to offset his loss.  Second, although Joey Votto is on the downside of his career, he is still productive and his $6.0m contract is fully paid by the Royals.  Like all trades, there is a risk/reward, and here?s hoping the Giants reap some rewards.

Royals confirm.  Votto has worked out well to plug a hole I had at CI, but I had signed him this offseason because I thought a number of my prospects were close to being MLB-ready and would help me field a competitive team this year.  It turns out I jumped the gun on that a bit, so I'm flipping Votto for an asset that might help me later when I'm (hopefully) in a better competitive position.  Retaining the salary won't be an issue in my current cap situation.
