Title: IR Replacements
Post by: Drew on March 05, 2021, 03:15:07 PM
On our Google Rosters, can we tell who is an IR replacement for who? I want to make a move with Seabrook's retirement but don't know which one of my IR replacements is the one for Seabrook.

to me it dont matter the specific player as long as the money is correct

So I can just move an IR replacement around?
So say a player like Pavel Zacha, I have as an IR replacement for someone. I can release Seabrook then place Ellis on IR and keep Zacha as a replacement?
Or I could move Zacha to an IR replacement for Zucker then place Ellis on IR and be all good?

I see no reason why this shouldn't be allowed, so yes, as long as the IR replacement salary is below whoever's on your IR's salary + cap space

In backyard IR replacement players are assigned to the player that are on IR. I think that is what has always been done according to the rules.

Sorry yes, this is where my question comes from. The purpose of this was so that you would have to eventually release these players back to free agency for everyone to have a fair shot on, especially if they were a good performing player. If you allow a switch of players then you can just pick the best player as an IR replacement and release the ones not doing as good in comparison to the one you signed to replace that specific player. The intent of the rule this way was so that there was a legitimate free agent pool to get IR players from and they weren't just maintained on their roster as per say a "taxi squad" member from this season.
Just food for thought, I am good with whatever decision.

We will stay consistent with what the league has always done and have IR replacements tied to players and will mark it down on the spreadsheet. I'll go back when I have time and make that adjustment.

I personally still side with my viewpoint of allowing IR players to replace anybody, but we can revisit this in the offseason. I don't believe this rule has been broken yet so no actions are required.

my interpretation is as follows
you put player 1 on IR and call up or sign player A and B as IR replacements.
you then put player 2 on IR and call up or sign player c, d and e as IR replacements.
when you activate player 2 you can release or demote any combo of players that were IR replacements, player a, b ,c ,d or e that gets the money correct. it does not mean you can do things with players already on your 25 man roster that have not been designated as IR replacements.

you have to look at the intent of the rule as to what makes sense. the intent is that players that have been designated as IR replacements are just that. other wise we would just say Im sending player a and c back to the minors and then calling player c back up to be an IR replacement for player a. just seems like extra work for me
