Post by: Brent on November 21, 2020, 04:11:11 PM
The Pelicans and Pacers agree to the trade below.  The Pelicans do this to add to the foundation of their build plan while moving a potential superstar in Barrett.  Thanks for the negotiations.  Pacers to confirm.

Pacers trade:
2020 1.24. :IND-NBA:
SF      Doug McDermott         $7.3m
PF   2021   T.J. Leaf         $4.3m   RFA
C   2023   Goga Bitadze         $3.7m   $3.7m   $3.7m   RFA

for

Pelicans trade:
SF   2023   R.J. Barrett         $9.2m   $9.2m   $9.2m   RFA
Pelicans pay $5M this season (2020/2021)

Pacers accept. This is basically Goga and our first this year for Barrett with the rest being a salary dump to make it work. While Goga has some potential I feel the first this year is a fair price to upgrade to Barrett.

:veto: Not enough value to Pacers

I think the Pacers are getting the better deal, but rather even considering Barrett and Goga are both very young and relatively unknown. Barrett with the higher ceiling than Goga and a better opportunity for minutes is offset by the additional players and pick. As with all trades I see a side I like better, but I don't believe this falls into veto territory. Just my opinion.

I don't see how this is a veto for not enough value to Pacers. I think Barrett is probably the top asset in the trade because of his high ceiling even though I am somewhat low on him.

I approve since the high uncertainty of the assets makes it hard to definitively say it is lopsided either way.

Edit: I also view dumping McDermott as a win for the Pacers.

I agree Indy should get more than Barrett but i trust the young GM knows what he wants.

Usually when people see one side as better and others see the other side as better it is a fair trade.
