Title: Rookie draft
Post by: Rob on November 19, 2020, 01:23:12 PM
Is it happening here or on Fantrax?  Also - are all players added on Fantrax?  Safe to assume that any player that's available there (under 31 GP) is available to draft?

Rookie draft is just for player drafted in 2020 this year. Other unowned prospects can be taken in the contraction draft or bid on in FA

Ah.  Boring.  The rules say otherwise, though:

Quote
Basic Draft Rules:

Any player with fewer than 31 games is eligible to be drafted
Clarification: Any player eligible to be on an NHL Roster (No players who are still eligible for upcoming NHL Entry Drafts can be drafted in PDH)

Are we handling it differently in year 1?

yes its different just for year 1 although I would be good in making it the same as it will be next year. we should consider maybe any player with 0 games played, would be nice and make the 7 rounds more relevant.

What's the point in doing it differently this year?  Also, if we're only drafting 2020 entry level players, why do we have 7 rounds of drafting?  We'll be done after 2 rounds.

thats what Vik and west coast decided. I agree we should at least add the 0 games played players. I think part of their reasoning was all those players belonged to teams before our start date so they go into the contraction draft.

This just floods the contraction with too many players and weakens the rookie draft.  I would change course and do the Rookie draft with all <31 GP players.  Or, as you say, at least add the 0 GP guys to the eligible draftees.

And then make all 30+ GP guys ineligible to select in the contraction draft.  Then you have 2 robust and fun drafts to look forward to.

I see things need clarified so let me break down what I am thinking:

Below is initial decision on 2020 draft and going forward:

(6) 2020 Rookie Draft
- The 2020 PDH Rookie Draft will only include the 2020 NHL draft class, posted here: https://www.profsl.com/smf/index.php?topic=372279.0
(Due to the 2020 contraction draft upon league start-up including un-owed franchise's minor league players/prospects)
- 2021 PDH Rookie Draft and beyond will include any eligible player in an NHL minors system

And here is updated proposal

(6) 2020 Rookie Draft
- The 2020 PDH Rookie Draft will allow the following:

1) 2020 NHL draft class, posted here: https://www.profsl.com/smf/index.php?topic=372279.0
2) Any minor league players with 0 games of NHL experience

(Due to the 2020 contraction draft upon league start-up including un-owed franchise's minor league players/prospects, we will still limit guys with at least 1 game to be contraction eligible only)
- 2021 PDH Rookie Draft and beyond will include any eligible player in an NHL minors system

In a nutshell, the difference is allowing any player with zero NHL games to be 2020 draft eligible.

Also, as per PM I think it makes most sense to do rookie draft on the board here and Contraction on Fantrax.

Just so we are on same page here, anyone who may have only playoff or last year's "bubble" experience is not eligible as 0 games includes any NHL game what so ever. I added this caveat to rules.

Mentioning this as a good question was brought up via PM asking if G Jake Oettinger is eligible and answer is no. He played 37 minutes for Dallas in these past playoffs despite not having any other experience coming in.
