Title: League communications
Post by: snugerud on October 15, 2020, 11:04:29 AM
So I have found the communication system here on ProFSL has been lacking for quite a while. (ie. no notifications when you receive a message) I would like to setup a secondary messaging or even a new primary to communicate league wide deadlines schedules.

I personally like fantrax for that purpose as they require an email and its easy to checkbox everyone all at once.  Does everyone here have their emails up to date on fantrax?

Yea - I used the Fantrax system for league-wide communication too.  Sending a mass PM here doesn't work well without notifications.  We could also try to adopt a group messaging app of some sort - if we can get everyone on board and using it.

Don't know what's so hard about checking in on the site once or twice a day. Anybody that can't do that really isn't interested.

I generally agree, but there's always a few that need some prodding.  It's inevitable and it's what we have to work with.  Getting an email blast saying "DRAFT STARTS MONDAY" helps keep people engaged.  Even super active members like Cally lost track of when the draft started this year.

Snug, maybe throw out a test email from Fantrax and ask everyone to respond on here that they received it OK.

I get it but I'm an anti-notification guy. I really try to not let my phone dictate when I look at it so don't expect me to respond to emails from fantrax. All apps are asleep or silenced!

I just want to go on record that I am NOT a fan of moving the league off Profsl on to Fantrax. I don’t like the setup of Fantrax when it comes to trades and discussions. I know some don’t agree with me and that’s fine. I’m not in a habit of checking Fantrax for anything other than scoring and lineups. I agree that Profsl has had issues but it was pretty quick to move it off. So if I don’t respond to things on Fantrax it’s because I’m not looking at it. If you want to discuss trades you can reach me here.

Without having a more involved discussion I think we continue doing trades as we always have. Appreciate the emergency impulse to save the league but profsl's boards aren't toast just yet.

It looks to me like all trade offers and trades are happening on Fantrax.  I'm not sure if that is how its supposed to be.  I hope not. I'll be missing a lot of communications.

That was just the initial rushed response to profsl being down. Rob said we should keep profsl for communication, trades, and FA so everything should be okay.

Yep, exactly what you said here.
So not sure why your panties are in a knot over the other thing you were fussing about

I dont care where you negotiate your trades , have your communication.  It would be appreciated if once you have a trade worked out to propose and accept it through Fantrax as it makes admining it that much easier.  The trade can be posted here on profsl to get the approved or veto votes.

Rosters , contracts and cap hits, will be reflected on Fantrax.  Again this is because it makes running the league way more efficient. Much of the work is done automatically instead of having to update multiple spread sheets.

Free Agent bids will be done on profsl.  Teams can add their player when won on fantrax or feel free to wait for an admin to add.  Contract will need to be updated regardless after a player is won.

Drops will be done on fantrax.  No need to make a post unless you would like to have their cap hit condensed into 1 year.

Trades MUST be posted on Profsl for discussion PRIOR to executing the transaction. These group conversations are critical to league integrity and are not a formality.

Who are the commissioners in this league??

I thought Snugerud was and Rob had retired but I notice Boston-Rob is leading now.

And so I have this straight because it has changed a lot in 1.5wks.
Trades are now back to Profsl but then posted to Fantrax by GMs once accepted?

We make our own Add/Drop on Fantrax. But contracts get cleaned up where and by who again?

Rob is the original Commish and he's working with Snug now to deal with the scramble from the Profsl outage. I am comfortable with both but assume Rob is about to step back soon.

Sorry for the confusion.  I did previously step aside to just a GM role with Gypsie, Snug, Anthony, and jmtrops stepping up to cover the admin bases.  But with that outtage and feeling we needed immediate and drastic changes, I stepped back up to help Snug implement them.

Not going to lie, the last week+ has got me re-engaged at the league management level.  Even if I do maintain a reduced role - I'll likely always poke my head around for big changes.  That and posting reminders and sending mass emails about crap.

We've been here 10 years and have had a lot of people step up and down from admin/commish roles.  I have a lot of trust in the core members of this league.  That's why there's 7 people with commish access on Fantrax.  We are a league that's run by committee - and even when I was doing 100% of the admin work, we were always owned/managed by our members as a whole.

I apologize for all the back and forth on rules and setup since you've been a member!  Usually we're a well oiled machine here.  :)
