Detroit will hand Howard another contract. I think the guy's got unfinished business and wants to keep playing for another couple of years.
Jimmy Howard, $5.3m (2017-2020) #17 G 18/19 $7.3m (2020-2024)
If Howard signs with another NHL team, will I be able to get the Franchise Player discount on Howard? I'm guessing my franchise drafted him. How can I verify that information (ex. get access the the 2011 Fantrax site to check)?

Wundermaan, you got it right. Player ranking for the purposes of contract extensions are from Fantrax.com

A team need to prove the player was originally drafted by their team, provide link to historical post. In the case or original rosters drafted and how those players may qualify for a Franchise Player discount, I think PPG and I agreed it would be valid for FP tag. So far I do not believe anyone has used that FP source. Do your research/homework and find out.
