Title: Blazers/Rockets Blockbuster
Post by: Vik on January 29, 2019, 05:46:24 PM
Usually I post the deal 1st, but figure I'll preface and explain this one we got creative to ensure cap works. I have had my eyes on Paul for a while now but we haven't been able to work anything until now. However, this deal is unlike the traditional deal as the only logical way to make salary work would involve Collison. And it's funny that while I was actively shopping him for good chunk of year, now that Oladipo is out I want to hold and benefit for the increased production. Adding Paul while keeping him and my other core guards is a great boost for dimes/steals.

Given rules state no more than 50% of salary can be paid I am still sending Collison to make it work but will then get him back with money paid for Howard and my 2020 1st. Overall, for me renting Paul, Houston get a 1st, cheap albeit close to retirement Parker, some upside in Maker plus Howard who is a complete wild- if he does return should still put up decent big man numbers.

I am posting as 2 separate deals below to show exactly how it works, but if approved and TC has no issue I would like to process as 1 big deal.

Trade 1:

Blazers trade:

Darren Collison 10m 2018
Thon Maker 3.2m 2019 (with 1.6m already paid this year)
Tony Parker 0.5m 2021

Rockets trade:

Chris Paul 24.6m 2018 (12.3m paid)

This deal on it's own is legal I take on 0.2m in cap and I have exactly that much free.

Trade 2:

Blazers trade:

Dwight Howard 5.2m 2018
:POR: Portland 2020 1st round pick

Rockets trade:

Darren Collison 10m 2018 (paying 5m)

First impression is that this whole trade should be:
Part 1 voted on and then if both teams want to they can then do Part 2, after Part 1 has been approved.

They’re 2 separate trades and as such should be voted on that way, especially with all the money being moved around here (over $17m)

That's cool, no issue at all posting as 2 separate trades or simply keeping it like this and processing them 1 at a time. I just figured there is no need for TC to double vote and presented at once so everyone knows exact details. Just didn't want the case where 1st part approved then 2nd part vetoed.

Just didn't want the case where 1st part approved then 2nd part vetoed.

Which could well happen, which is why I think Part 1 needs to be the first part

And then if both of you still want you can post the other parts moving back with extras added.

Otherwise if it’s clumped into one trade it opens up a huge can of worms for future trades to:
“trade a player away but get that player back... but getting the player back means he’s actually coming at a discount because now money is being paid for him when he comes back”

Kind of a way to circumvent the whole salary cap thing in one big trade.
Like I Trade you A, B and C for player D, but then I actually keep player B and C but you’re now playing half their salary so technically I get to keep those players at 50% off their current cap hit on my roster.

For me it makes things complicated, haha. This is supposed to be a simple straight forward salary cap league!
