Title: Rockets/Jazz Trade
Post by: marko_905 on October 15, 2018, 08:09:26 PM
To Houston:
Brandon Ingram $6.5m (2019)

To Utah:
Eric Gordon $13.8m (2019)
(Paid $7m in 2018 only)
E'Twaun Moore $1.1m (2018)
Kenneth Faried $0.5 (2019)

For me is an important deal because I need a SF starter. I think Prince or Ingram could rise their numbers their numbers this season so I hope they become strong starters.
I had to leave some depth from the bench. I love Gordon but it was necessary and Faried I think he could get close to Manimal again when they give him more minutes.

As new Jazz owner, I approve this trade as losing Ingram (great player) that is 1 body to gain 3 bodies to help to fill up my roster and with losing Norman Powell (free drop) I will have even more $$M for FA. I want to compete right from the get go and I need healthy bodies.

:iatp: Ingram has lots of upside still but no issue here if Utah believe this is best for the team. Gordon is still a nice source of 3s, points and steals and Faried can potential gain a bigger role this year.

When I am processing, please clarify salary- is the 7m only this year?

I don't like to, but I am going to have to say :veto: for this trade.

Reasons being:
- B.Ingram is one of two of the top fantasy players on Utah's roster
- E.Gordon is very much overpaid (and not even starting this year apparently), and he'll be the full $13.8m against the cap next year which hurts (for comparison sake, Russell Westbrook went for $12m/year, Blake Griffin went for $8m/year, Paul George went for $10.5m /year in Free Agency this summer).
- E.Moore isn't anything that you can't get on the FA market at the moment for the minimum contract ($0.5m/year, such as George Hill), and K.Faried is buried as the 3rd string C, or 3rd string PF...so really he's like the 5th best big in BKN. Not sure he's got any easy path to minutes.

I'm just not seeing the value for one of Utah's best players, when they could sign some players in FA for the min. contract amount to fill out the roster with depth, if that's what they're really after, all the while keeping Ingram on the roster.

One last thing to point out is that we can't re-sign players in our league. So Utah will lose Moore after this season, and then lose Gordon and Faried after next season.
Ingram is still an RFA, so you Utah will be able to keep him after next season, for 4 more years.
So it's 6 years of team control for Ingram, vs. 2 from Gordon/Faried and 1 from Moore.

If getting more bodies on the roster is the goal, there is still some depth out in the FA market that can be had for free.

Not a big fan of this trade but I always say if both teams are ok making this trade and no collusion is involved in which there isn't then I will vote  :iatp:

If after reading through what I wrote and Cliff is still okay with his trade with HOU, I have no problem changing my vote.

I'm just always extra careful with new managers in a new league, because a lot of the time they don't know the history of the league (previous trade values for players, how free agency went, etc.) so filling them in on all those kinds of things ... as well as the fact that we don't re-sign players in this league was the big thing.

If Cliff is all okay with it, which we talked via PM and he is, I'm certainly okay with the trade.

I never like to veto trades or tell people how to run their teams!

I'm on the fence for this one, and I agree with most of what WestCoast said in his first post. That said, it looks like there's a majority forming so :iatp:

Friendly reminder to all budget is otherwise in effect.
