James van Riemsdyk, $4.3m (2016-2019)

To Detroit
Jacob Trouba, $4.0m (2016-2019)
Round 3 - 2018 (:NYI: pick #77)
Round 4 - 2018 (:NYI: pick #108)

Detroit makes this deal because we have a lot of LWs but our goal this off-season has been to increase the production from our defense. We like Trouba as a player and hope he breaks his nasty habit of missing nearly 20 games almost every year. I also like getting a couple of extra picks in this draft. I've got a lot of players on my draft board and I think even these late round picks will be beneficial for us.

:iatp: JVR is an awesome player on any roster. He'll post big points with Giroux, Voracek, Couturier, Simmonds, Ghost, and Provorov as the support cast. Trouba is 5 yrs younger and those picks make this deal look good on the Island.

Took me one season to bounce back from the devastating semifinal loss against JD.
