Carolina Trades:
Anders Bjork, $0.2m (2017-2019)
D - Jack Dougherty (2014: 2/51 - 0 Games)
Penguins Trade:
Thomas Vanek, $1.3m (2017-2019)
Lots of injuries in Carolina right now. This trade is insurance in case Palat doesn't make it back by the playoffs. I'm sure I'll regret it in a couple of years but I'll worry about that then.

The Pens confirm.
Real simple ... the Pens never recovered from the disastrous first 2-3 months of the season. Vanek is having a strong season, but he's 34, and we're getting younger and looking to next year and beyond with Bjork.
Dougherty is a longer-term prospect ... especially with the Preds organizational depth on defense ... but we need to build out prospect pool too after a few years of trading picks/prospects. He still projects as a solid third-pairing defenseman, and I think he'll get a shot in a few years.
Thanks, Halo. Good luck!

:iatp: Vanek's a good add for the Metro leading Canes.

This is a fairly even trade given Vanek was a veteran Free Agent signing and has netted Pittsburgh some younger assets. I do not think Dougherty's ceiling is as high as some thought during his draft year in 2014.
