The Phillies have agreed to trade
P Blake Snell $480k in 2018, ARB 2019-2021
UT Victor Martinez $7.5M in 2018
to the Brewers in exchange for
P Johnny Cueto $8.5M in 2018 and 2019
$4M paid in 2018 and $6M paid in 2019
1B Yuli Gurriel $2.75M in 2018 and 2019

Phillies make this trade under the idea that they are in a 2 year window to win now. Snell is likely the better pitcher to have long term but I'm hoping Cueto has an improved year this season more in line with his career averages. Yuli is an upgrade over both Martinez and Mauer. Overall the deal costs me very little in terms of salary with the free agency backdrop what it is I'm happy with that. Only downside for me is a greater injury risk with the miles on Cueto's arm and the likelihood Snell reaches his ceiling.

Accept. Big fan of Snell, he finished last season strong and still has untapped potential. Tough to Move Cueto as will still likely outproduces Snell this year but if Snell takes another step forward hopefully not a big drop. I did entertain a few other Cueto deals and decided this was the best even though I wasn't planning to move him. Yurriel is the better bet than a washed up Vmart but who knows maybe he has something left now that he is healthier (plus he can hangout with Colon :P).
