Title: Dodgers/Rays Trade 1-12-17 8:19 am ET
Post by: BHows on January 12, 2018, 06:28:56 AM
Dodgers send OF Blackmon, Charlie, $6.5m (2020)  to Tampa for
OF Garcia, Jose Adolis,
SP Dunning, Dane, $0.5m (P-n/a)

The old buy low, sell high. I like what I'm getting in return believing both will be big contributors in the near future

Tampa agrees to this deal. Adding Chucknasty is very important. Everyone knows men with beards have special powers and I wanted the best. I'm giddy to add him (been trying for two years) . Not concerned with prospects as I am stacked in that area.

Thanks Rick!

Blackmon was the 3rd best batter last year in a hitters heavy league. Neither one of these guys is a top 100 spec. LA has plenty of cap room so it's not like this is a cap dump. Garcia did hit .301/.342/.478 in AAA last year, but Blackmon hit .331/.399/.601 in the majors, so I'd like to hear more of an explanation from LA. My initial thought is to veto, but not officially casting my vote yet.

Rick strikes me as a guy that knows what he is doing and does play the funny business.

Yeah, that explanation was written at 5A. Not my best work.
As a Red fan I can't stand the Cards but I've come to respect the organization and their ability to find well rounded players. Witness his numbers in so far and I believe they have a "Blackmon-ish" OF in the near future. He'll be 25 shortly and I think St. Louis will have no choice but to give him a shot in the near future.
In college Dunning pitched for a top BB school at U. of Florida and has the prototypical body type for a SP. He's not Top 100 but he is a former #1 draft pick and is currently ranked #8 in a pretty good CHW farm. The Sox thought enough of him to insist he be included in the Adam Eaton trade shortly after Washington had drafted him.
His WHIP and SO/9 is pretty impressive, number that translate very well in FGM scoring so his prospect rating means very little to me. I think we are witnessing a shift in FGM where pitching is becoming more critical. Not so much in quality but in quantity so cheap pitching will become more important
