CI Abreu, Jose, $16.5m (2018)

:ATL: GM would like to announce the fairwell for Braves star Jose Abreu, we wish him the best in San Francisco. Atlanta gets from this trade is valuable for their rebuilding movement since we are filling up the empty & weakness spots of the lineup such as in SP, OF, & UT players as well as some cap relief to help expand this organization.

Giants are getting a power hitter in Jose Abreu, something that the team has lacked in recent years.  Taking on Abreu’s hefty salary is obviously not something every team would want, but at 30 years of age, and in the last year of his contract, he qualifies for a two-year 70% extension, so there is a calculated risk/reward that the Giants hope pans out. 

The Braves are rebuilding, and with Abreu in the last year of his contract, there is a greater need for assets at multiple positions.  Hopefully it works for both teams.
