Title: Question from new Rays GM
Post by: VolsRaysBucs on February 19, 2010, 08:57:11 PM
Hey Guys,
I was reading the FA rules and noticed the date for declaring RFA was 1/10/10.  I am wondering if there is a place where I can find which, if any, players the previous GM tagged as RFA.  In particular I am curious about Zobrist, Bartlett, Navarro and Garza, all players who were arbitration eligible but not technically free agents.  I see that they are free agents at fantrax and just wanted to know if I had the right to match their final offer as it states under the rules as I understand them.  Thanks in advance and I look forward to being a part of the league.

There is a sticky post at the top of the Transactions thread with the list of RFAs:

Unfortunately, the previous TB GM was asleep at the wheel and did not use and of his three available RFA tags.

Also, since we started from Cot's contract numbers, real life arbitration eligible players had their contract's expire as they do in real life, but instead of an arbitration system to renew the contract like in real life FGM teams need to sign the player to a new contract extension... again, the previous Rays GM didn't do so.

Obviously losing these guys was not in the best interest of the Rays, but we all inherit teams of various quality and it's up to the GM to work with what they have.  Best of luck to you, and there are many active GM's here if you're looking to shake things up with some trades.

And as far as the players you mentioned go, Matt Garza was won in FA. Bartlett and Navarro have not come up for bid yet since we have not reached MI or C free Agency. Zobrist is currently up for bid on the Transactions page, if you would like to throw your hat in the ring.

Right on, no worries, I made the post before I saw Garza was won already.  This is no different than having to clean up Namoli and Lamar's mess in St. Pete in real life, I love the challenge :)
