Astros trade:
SP Moore, Matt, $4m (2018)
SP Kapriellian, James, $0.5m (P-n/a)

Giants trade:
CI Gurriel, Yulieski, $5m (2018)
SP Miley, Wade, $5.5m (2019)
SP Cotton, Jharel, $0.5m (P-n/a)
MI Garcia, Greg, $0.5m (P-2018)

To my mind I'm trading Moore for a  younger pitcher in Cotton while filling some roster holes in the process. Always looking to flip for younger players while I'm in this rebuild.

The Giants are looking to the future with this deal, although some may question it with the inclusion of SP Jharel Cotton in the deal.  However, as a Giants fan, I believe in SP Matt Moore.  He's having his troubles so far this year, but I'm confident he'll regain form and be a mainstay in the Giants FGM and MLB rotation.  The Giants are also getting a top prospect in SP James Kapriellian, who is out for the season with TJ surgery, but should return to form in 2018.

The Giants are giving up three somewhat productive players in CI Yulieski Gurriel, CI-MI Greg Garcia, and SP Wade Miley, but the salary cap relief gained is a positive trade off for their "wonder player status"--namely, wonder who plays today--the "good" one or the "negative points one".

Injuries have hurt the Giants this year, however, once MadBum and Paxton return, the addition of Moore makes the pitching staff very strong and things bode well for the future.
