Title: Braves - Giants trade
Post by: Mets Donations Accepted on December 18, 2016, 08:21:37 PM
Giants get:
Chris Ellis (P)
Tyler Wagner (P)
Matt Reynolds (P)
Cody Reed (P)

Braves get:
Charlie Blackmon (3.5)

Braves sacrifice some youth for a bat. Blackmon is a solid bat on a reasonable deal and right now the team needs bats. Willing to sacrifice a little of tomorrow to make this team more legit today.

Blackmon was the 5th rated outfielder in our league last year.  There's not a single worthwhile prospect or Major League player in this trade.

Chris Ellis, 6.52 era last year in AAA
Tyler Wagner, 25 year old middle reliever, pitched in 3 MLB games this year and last year
Matt Reynolds, 26 year old SS, hit .225 in MLB last year, .692 OPS in AAA the year before
Cody Reed, 7.36 ERA in 10 games for the Reds this year

Giants agree i move a bat for some young guys i like. In doing this i clear some more cap and i can go after some guys i like more. This wasnt a easy movefor me.  But realisticly i wasnt going to resign him after this yr. Armchair is a tough league not only u have to compete but u have to budget your money wisely.  Last couple of years i didnt do that so know i got to retool my roster. Owners like chrisetc21 and the rest of the vets in this league make it a challange to do it. 15-9 record wasnt good enough for me i failed to make it to the end. Alot came down to injurys and payroll and i couldnt do it so i wanted to go a little younger add some debth. I wanted to add some young tallent to my pitching staff and i did that with this trade wagner i feel givin a chance can be on the team this yr as a 3rd or 4th sp and same thing with reed i think given a chance he can be that pitcher cinci needs him to be. Reynolds might not be that stud player he was thought to be but still young enough he can turn it around.

Hot stove trying to heat up. Giants dropped an egg on the floor here. I'm tired of trying to protect him from himself.  :iatp:

I don't think it's a great trade, but the Giants have been trying to rebuild all off-season and this continues this effort, so I see no reason to impede that process.
