The 2017/18 salary cap will be INCREASED to $81.1m. This is a total increase of $1.8m from this year. Please plan accordingly. This was calculated using the equation we settled on last year, as follows:
Current year NHL cap/Prior year NHL cap = X
X(DNHL cap) = Y
DNHL average cap space - NHL average cap space = Z
Y - Z = New salary cap
***The maximum yearly decrease $2m. This is the most the cap will decrease from year to year regardless of the results of this equation.
$73m/$71.4m = 1.022408963
1.022408963($79.3) = $81.1m
$5.7m - $5.7m = $0.0m
$81.1m - $0.0m = $81.1m
