This is a deal that helps both teams. The Leafs get a goood young scorer in Duchene, making him the top option in Toronto. This should solidify the scoring attack for the up coming season.

Didnt like to see Jacob go, he is going to be the man real soon in Vancouver. Both he and Elias combined for 6.0 in cap. So the Leafs absorb .7 which will leave a roster spot and funds for 3 soon to be made moves.

The young Right Wing aquired is a tough kid with good size. He is the type of player that does all the little things to set up his line mates. Pesky high enrgy in all 3 zones, monster on the fore check. He will get pleanty of coaching from the staff at Western Michigan.

Then the 1st round selection can never have enough of them in your pocket. We will see what this selection reveals in Chicago on draft day.

I will let Daz cover his end of the trade. Nice smooth negoiations my friend welcome and cheers!

As Blkhwkfn says this helps both Toronto and Vancouver.

Vancouver reason is that it needs a goaltender that has top opportunity to become main starter that believe Markstrom will be after next year for atleast 2/3 years until that pesky Demko is ready. Taking on Elias helps my LW lack of depth, and helps Toronto cap space, plus Canucks have large cap room.

Knew that i have to lose minimum of 1st round + v.good player to gain a goaltender.

Losing Duchene is quite hard, as good 2nd line Centre, but have good depth at C in Brassard, Auston Matthews plus FA target if win the bid to cover that lost.
The 2017 first rounder i expect to be top 10, and losing Minor Wade Allison who the type of RW every team needs.

Plus thanks to Blkhwkfn for making this such an easy trade to broker.

Good deal for a good younger goalie, hopefully he starts in Vancouver this year.

Elias doesnt have an NHL contract nor a PTO at this time... being 40yo recovering from a knee injury he's a non fact in this deal. So it's a strong offer for a potential starter that includes a Top 15 pick for 2017.
I like the deal overall.

Vancouver is paying for potential and coming strong as a new owner. :winner:

Buying Markstrom's potential is an expensive proposition.

TOR & VAN pgs & fntx done :judge:

We usually let trades sit on the page 2-3 days but since most of :TC: voted and there's no issue with this deal I've processed this to allow the new owner to continue his rebuilding project. :toast:
