Title: Trade: Astros / Braves
Post by: chrisetc21 on July 28, 2016, 08:32:47 PM
Astros Trade
Rafael Devers (P)
Josh Hader (P)
Rafael Marchan (P)
2016 draft picks 17-30

Braves Trade
Aaron Sanchez 2nd ($440k)
Michael Fulmer (P)

Astros make the trade to add some young pitchers who are already having MLB success.  This will enable me to keep some of my better pitching prospects in the minors and still make a run in the playoffs.  Getting Hader was one of my first trades years ago but Devers is especially hard to part with here, he was one of my favorite international signings a couple years ago and I think he's going to be a beast in Fenway but he's still a few years away I think and I'm ready to win now.  Thanks to the Braves for negotiations.  Braves to confirm.

I will accept this trade from the Astros

The Braves will make this trade to add some very quality prospects in Hader and Devers. I was willing to part ways with my two young pitchers because I realized I'm still a couple of years from winning so I knew I could get some good prospects out of them which I was able to do. I also get an extra 13 draft picks to further help my rebuild

 :veto:

My understanding is new owners must wait 72 hours before making a trade.

Besides that, the trade itself seems a bit sketchy. While Devers and Hader are solid prospects, Fulmer and Sanchez are good young players themselves who unlike Devers and Hader have proved themselves in the majors while being controllable for only a combined 1 year less than Devers and Hader. It would be a totally different story if Sanchez/Fulmer were only controllable for a few more years each.

I hate to veto and very rarely do but considering its not a particularly great return for the Braves, it's a brand new owner (violation of league rule to trade less than 72 hours) and none of these players were put on the trade block it's too sketchy for me.

By solid prospects, you mean better than any prospects in your entire organization?   :o

Besides that, it's kind of an issue to have our first new owner since February and not allow him to trade until next year because the trade deadline was one hour and five minutes shorter than the 72 hour period away at the time he requested a team.  You want to veto my trade for your own reasons and that's fine but running out the clock on a new owner is not what the rule was intended to accomplish.
