In previous years, there were a number of bloated player contracts floating around the league.
2011-12 List of overpaid FNHL players (http://www.profsl.com/smf/index.php?topic=68139.0)
2012-13 List (http://www.profsl.com/smf/index.php?topic=94707.0)
2013-14 List (http://www.profsl.com/smf/index.php?topic=124207.0)
2014-15 List (http://www.profsl.com/smf/index.php?topic=202748.0)
Who belongs on the 2015-16 List?
- :DAL-NHL: LW - Cory Conacher, $1.5m (2014-2017) - playing in Swiss league
- :DAL-NHL: LW - Curtis Glencross, $2.2m (2013-2016) - retired in Oct 2015
- :OTT: D - Dennis Wideman, $6.3m (2015-2019) - getting Elite $$ for very poor production
- :TBL: D - Andrej Sekera, $4.9m (2014-2017) - an FA that didn't live up to last yr's hype
- :MIN-NHL: D - Jack Johnson, $5.1m (2013-2016) - plays like a bottom pairing D
- :NAS: D - Andy Greene, $4.2m (2015-2018) - plays but not really, well below point-per-game
- :NAS: D - Brenden Dillon, $5.5m (2014-2018) - there are way cheaper options for his output level
- :FLO: D - David Savard, $5.7m (2015-2019) - paid Top 5 $$ but didn't continue upward scoring trend
- :CAR-NHL: D - Eric Gelinas, $4.0m (2015-2018) - not producing much
- :CLS: G - Ray Emery, $1.5m (2015-2018) - playing in Germany
- :TOR-NHL: D - Jordie Benn, $3.4m (2014-2017) - wouldn't get much interest as an FA
- :DET-NHL: LW - Matt Martin, $6.1m (2015-2019) - only because he owned a cheaper cap hit before an attempted contract adjustment via FA
- :NYI: LW - Thomas Vanek, $6.2m (2013-2017) - hasn't been an Elite forward in a long time
- :PIT-NHL: G - Ilya Bryzgalov, $2.2m (2015-2018) - left over from last season, dumped then resigned
- :WIN: D - Paul Martin, $3.3m (2014-2017) - not doing much to earn pay
- :NYR: D - Zach Bogosian, $4.2m (2014-2017) - gets All-Star $$ for stay-at-home D production
- :PHO: LW - Clarke MacArthur, $3.0m (2014-2017) - played all of 4 games this yr
- :PHO: LW/RW - Sergei Plotnikov, $4.9m (2015-2018) - earning Elite $$ for 4th line production
- :PHO: D - Dougie Hamilton, $8.4m (2015-2020) - product of a FA bidding war
- :CLG: D - Fedor Tyutin, $2.4m (2014-2017) - plays like he's retired
- :CLG: D - Eric Brewer, $1.6m (2014-2017) - sat at home all season
- :CLG: LW - Evander Kane, $9.0m (2012-2017) - this 2012 Free Agent bidding war contract is winding down
- :EDM: LW - Sergey Tolchinsky, $2.1m (2015-2018) - never played in the NHL this yr
- :EDM: D - James Wisniewski, $3.6m (2015-2018) - just got a Amnesty Buyout!
- :EDM: D - TJ Brodie, $4.9m (2015-2018) - another case of All-Star $$ for reserve D output
- :SJ: RW - Ryan Callahan, $7.7m (2015-2019) - overpriced
- :SJ: D - Cody Franson, $5.5m (2015-2019) - a Free agent that didn't deliver
- :SJ: RW - Ryan Callahan, $7.7m (2015-2019) - overpriced
- :VAN: RW - Martin St. Louis, $6.9m (2014-2018) - retired and yet still collected FNHL paycheck
- :VAN: D - Mark Stuart, $3.7m (2014-2017) - missed time + low production
- :VAN: D - Niklas Kronwall, $5.7m (2014-2018) - missed time + low production = overpriced
- :VAN: D - Dan Hamhuis, $4.5m (2013-2016) - low output for hefty cap hit
- :COL-NHL: RW - Alexander Radulov, $2.1m (2015-2018) - still playing in KHL
-
Ryan Callahan was so bad he made the list twice.
-
Flames were holding out hope that Brewer would get a sniff somewhere this season. All he got to sniff was the crack in his couch and the stale stench of the air at home. :puke:
-
Matt Martin at 12 doesn't make sense to me. He's a point producer and he got his price in an open free market. Sure it was a bump from his last contract but he has gotten me more fantasy points than Datysuk and is still cheaper than the Magic Man.
-
Surprised McNabb didn't make this list, given his contract. Although it was based on his production from last year and not a fa signing. No caps made the list and you could of put all my oilers dmen in and would of been OK 30m for a bunch of scrubs.
-
Most bad contracts are a cautionary tale of Free Agency bidding.
18. :PHO: LW/RW - Sergei Plotnikov, $4.9m (2015-2018) - earning Elite $$ for 4th line production
19. :PHO: D - Dougie Hamilton, $8.4m (2015-2020) - product of a FA bidding war
Then the other bloated contracts are bad decisions when it came time to contract extensions.
3. :OTT: D - Dennis Wideman, $6.3m (2015-2019) - getting Elite $$ for very poor production
28. :SJ: RW - Ryan Callahan, $7.7m (2015-2019) - overpriced
-
:EDM: D - TJ Brodie, $4.9m (2015-2018) - another case of All-Star $$ for reserve D output
In this scoring system, he gets the short end of the stick. 37 assists is not a reserve D output, but the fact the guy is scared to hit kills all his value.

I think Brodie shouldn't be on the list.
His output is lower because he was hurt to start the yr.
-
29. :VAN: RW - Martin St. Louis, $6.9m (2014-2018) - retired and yet still collected FNHL paycheck
Just got a 1yr retirement BO that cost the Nucks $8.2 million
31. :VAN: D - Niklas Kronwall, $5.7m (2014-2018) - missed time + low production = overpriced
Getting Amnesty BO after the FNHL Finals wrap up!
32. :VAN: D - Dan Hamhuis, $4.5m (2013-2016) - low output for hefty cap hit
Hitting the road after getting BO moments ago!
-
Ottawa management nominates Dennis Wideman's $6.3 Million contract for the #1 spot atop this list of overpaid players in 2015-16!
- DD
-
22. :CLG: LW - Evander Kane, $9.0m (2012-2017) - this 2012 Free Agent bidding war contract is winding down
This is shocking though I can see how a player such as Evander would have received a Free Agent offer of $9.0m annually back in 2012 when team could only dream of his sky high potential.

2 words, Bidding Frenzy!
-
You don't even need a bidding war, anymore. Just look at G extensions. Kuemper at 6M was a pretty big ripoff. Lehtonen at 9.7M was just as bad. :puke:
LOL actually, I would of paid an extra 4M if Kuemper was getting more than 1 start every month (and If I was Minny, I wouldn't give him that much of an opportunity)
-
A lot of the contracts seem normal compared to some of the contracts handed out this yr in FA. Whooah!
-
I think there is now a 50-way tie for 1st after this year's fa class (http://www.profsl.com/smf/Smileys/default/rotfl.gif)
-
Clear cut winner:
Antti Niemi, $8.6m (2017-2022)

Vadim Shipachyov, $5.8m (2017-2021)
30 minutes of ice time and 1 goal...
:DET-NHL: Detroit stands by this signing and blames real life Vegas. They should have traded him. Maybe I would have actually stood a chance of making the playoffs...instead I'm just sitting in first place in my division...

I've gotta say you're having a great year. I'm a little surprised but probably shouldn't be.
When I looked at rosters across the league I figured yours to be in the middle of the pack, but I was wrong. Detroit and a few other team's are surprisingly very strong. :toast:
BTW yes he is overpaid but meh, every team has at least one guy overpaid.

Yeah, glad I lost that bidding war. Guy is already back in Russia and signed with a team there. At least you get the KHL discount.
-
Tampa is a :DL: mash :DL: unit again. 6 guys on IR, another guy red flagged & 3 others have been sent to the AHL to hone their skills.
The entire team is overpaid.
The best ability is availability & all money spent on nothing is total loss.

Vadim Shipachyov has 4 goals and 6 assists in 6 games this year... in the KHL...

The dude is a beast, I'll always wonder what this year would have been if McPhee hadn't messed with my Ship...

I'll nominate for the top spot:
Josh Anderson, $10.3m (2019-2024)
1G 3A in 26 games and hurt. The hits save him here, but another case of a FA bidding went wild.
-
I think it's safe to say :SJ: Milan Lucic, $5.7m (2019-2023) gets to stay on this list.
-
Bobrovski in real life.
What a waste of money lol
