Title: Internal or External Trade Committee?
Post by: kenny on June 29, 2011, 11:34:12 PM
I see other leagues have discussed the possibility of utilizing a trade committee utilizing outside members (the ProFSL TC or PTC). See this thread for Franchise GM League's discussion of this topic: http://www.profsl.com/smf/index.php?topic=24345.0

I have mixed feelings on this as both options have their pros and cons. Letting outside members vote on trades may eliminate the possibility of biases, but they may also not know the real value of a player in this league. Yes, they are supposed to be well-versed in each leagues rules, but how effective can that really be without participating in it (in a league with custom rules)?

While I do have my opinions, this is definitely open for discussion and I'm open-minded.

Since Shelby wants to help you out Kenny, ask his opinion as well. In my opinion, the PROFSL TC can be an asset to our league and I would endorse it as it is the best people picked by Colby himself. Now, this would eliminate Dave, me, and whomever else serves on it when the league opens soon. The trade committee is also responsible for making sure each move is legal within cap and roster parameters so we would still have a role, just not as big of one. Yes, we would know the rules the best, but there are some vets in PROFSL that really can look at a trade with a bit more experienced eyes and gauge a bit better with having the rules in mind.

Wouldn't an external TC be a little bit of a burden on the members of the TC. I'm sure that the people on that TC already have enough things to do given their responsibilities on the website. I would just hate for people to be burdened with a league the are not affiliated with, because I know I really wouldn't want to be responsible for a league I wasn't involved in.
I'm fine either way just wanted to throw my 2 cents out there.

The external TC is comprised of volunteers and do not necessarily have other responsibilities on this website. They already know this is for other leagues.

With an external TC, no problems with a trade approved by the TC while that is unfair. no member may say that the one who vetoed protect its interests ... etc.

As noted above, the members of Profsl TC doesn't know the rules and the value of players in this league, what is true and can be a big problem but I saw that Corey and Fantasyguru were interested in joining Profsl the TC. If two members of the league are part of Profsl TC, we can count on them to explain, underline, remember the rules and values of the players.

I vote external TC

I would vote external. I feel that eliminates bias, and I'm the type who thinks a veto is only used if the trade can be harmful to the integrity of the league, and I don't feel an external TC has to have the in-depth knowledge necessarily to know whether a trade can hurt the league's integrity as a whole.
