Title: RC Members Only: What type of Compensation should be given for RPs lost to Free
Post by: Flash on August 14, 2015, 07:46:31 PM
We have long wrestled with the issue of Type A and Type B compensation for RPs and how it is clouded by the inclusion of players who are SP/RP.  I think we have, over the years, come to a consesus that RPs are not major players in our league and I think the available statistics bear this out.

In 2014 -- One SP/RP, Tanner Roarke, was ranked #38 in comparison to the players who were only SPs.  He scored 1678 points because he had 31 Game Starts (GS) and no RP.  He attained his RP status this season because he was removed from the Washington rotation and was used as a RP with some spot starts.  In 2015, he has 31 RP Games and 6 GS.  In 2014 he would be a Type A free agent and in 2015 he would be a Type B free agent if we go by our existing Type A & B rules.  I could list example after example, but suffice it to say I think the solution is that we should not have any Type A compensation for RPs. Compensation should be limited to Type B and mirror the Type A compensation of the top 6 we use for Catchers.  This issue of Type A and Type B compensation for RPs is something separate from the re-sign values and will be voted on by the Rules Committee shortly so that we can have a final ruling by season's end.

Please feel free to comment on this subject.  After a week, I will take into account any suggestions that seem plausible and place the issue before the Rules Committee for a formal vote.
