Title: Vote: Expansion
Post by: Drew on July 27, 2015, 01:24:57 AM
Please vote on the following options. This will determine our process going forward. If vote is yes, we will start to discuss specifics.

If vote is close for this year for expansion then free agency will see a bit of a delay until vote is resolved or until expansion is finalized and complete!

Before I vote yes, I would like to know at least like what us current gm's would have to give up.

I think having an expansion because we can is the wrong reason to do it. We should let the league play out another year to see how it plays out.

You would only be allowed to keep a certain number of players off your current roster then the rest would be unprotected and be subject to being selected in the expansion draft. The specifics are yet to be decided on but a number being thrown out there was 16 players from your major league roster and full protection of your minor league roster.

Gotcha, I wanted just an idea.

But I agree with favo. To do it, just too is the wrong way.

I see your point. Myself and Slack have talked a bit about expansion over PM and came to the conclusion that expansion means growth and that Backyard is growing can possibility produce a better product, just like the exact NHL, when we decide to expand.

We also determined that because Backyard has been such a successful product now for 4 going on 5 years that expansion isn't a if question it is most likely a when question.

But with that said, I am not for or against expansion as expansion may dilute our teams and free agency but those are factors we can't project right now as another possible thing is maybe the entry draft becomes even more valuable. Who knows.

I voted NO for now, but I could see it in the future.  Our core is great, but it seems like we have a revolving door with 1 or 2 teams.  I think we solidify those teams and then look into it.  :toast:

I am in favour of expansion when the time is right. The time is not even close to being right.

This last season we almost didn't have Tony and Mariner and we are lucky they both decided to stay because we went through an additional seven GM's. Detroit, Boston, Montreal, LA, and Tampa all have new GM's while New York went through at least two.

Not only is this not the right time to expand, it is not the right time to even talk about it or have any kind of vote on the issue. Projecting forward an expansion for the 2016-17 season from this point would be foolishly optimistic. Let's nurture our good sense along with the stability of the league.

I vote no.

I agree with most of this statement.

We should solidify the teams with a revolving door of GM’s. There are some great PROFSL members that would like a team, but we are limited.

If we expand too early, we run the risk of having 6-8 teams to fill every season. That, in my opinion, discourages Commissioners and GM’s alike.

We should wait one more season.

Also vote for this season isn't close so free agency will go ahead with its start tomorrow.

This is the kind of vote that should be restricted to Backyard veteran's.

We give a good deal more scrutiny to trades by new GM's because they don't understand the value of players right away. Why on earth would we allow a GM that has only been in the league for a couple of days a full say? Nothing against new members but there's fully 1/3 of the league that hasn't been here for a full year. What does it matter to them if the league goes sideways?

1/3 of our league....one whole division. Let's see how next year goes and then talk about it.

I also voted No for many of the same reasons that were brought up.

With 2 more votes left, I will use my vote to vote No and end talks for expansion for right now. This will be something we will bring up again in the next off-season!
