Title: King and Coyotes Exchange Stars
Post by: dickiedunn on April 30, 2015, 12:29:52 AM
Los Angeles management is pleased to announce a trade with the Arizona Coyotes that we believe to be equitable for both franchises.

Traded to Arizona
C John Tavares, $6.0m (2011-2015)
Note: Tavares is looking for a new contract worth $8.9m (2015-2020) as the Top rated Center in Franchise NHL.

Traded to Los Angeles
D Mark Giordano, $2.4m (2013-2016)
G Peter Budaj, $0.5m (2014-2016)

We approached the Coyotes with the opportunity to acquire the Top ranked Center in the league and informed them of Tavares' expected raise. We feel that he can be a centerpiece for any team given he's only 24 years old and surrounded by talented young players in the NHL. In return we asked for Giordano who is older, comes with a cheap cap hit but only has 1 year left on that contract before he gets a sizable raise. Budaj was tossed in by Arizona.

Simple, straight forward deal.

Thank you Blkhwkfn! GO Hawks!

yes I agree to this trade.

The Coyotes are on thier way out of the cellar with this trade. The Kings get a solid blue liner in Mark Girodano to replace Nick Leddy. The Kings also gain much needed cap space.

In acquiring John Taveras both youth and skill have been added to a soon to be new look Yotes team. Management is shopping for a new pen for Taveras to sign his new deal with.

In other news the Coyotes will retain Henrik Lundqivst as thier goalie.

GO HAWKS! (Not PPGs Hawks, the real Hawks)

Nice deal for both sides on this one. Defence is particularly hard to come by in FNHL but Tavares is a super solid return for any 31 year-old blue-liner.

:iatp: That's a good return both ways. Safe to say Johnny Tavares has already hit his stride at the age of 24 so coughing up those big dollars are worth it. LA gets cap space and a top 10 D IMO. If Budaj was the throw in that's a sweet bonus. He might end up being worth something.

:iatp: Gotta say this is interesting but good for both teams. I think Tavares has more value as a 24yo on a team breaking out than a 31yo Giordano but there is benefit going both ways.

That is the trade off in this deal. Young with large cap commitment for a veteran with one last cap friendly year before he cashes in on his last big contract.

In this league, I believe choices have to be made to keep a franchise competitive while you avoid getting your head crushed against the cap ceiling.

Here's to a well balanced trade that hopefully both teams profit from.
