On behalf of hockey fans everywhere....  :puke:

I like the idea that if a team gets first over-all pick then they are ineligible for the lottery for the next 3 years.

I think this is completely fair that Oilers won again. It would be less fair if Buffalo won as they honestly did not try this season. When you get rid of your goalies so that you win less, it is kind of obvious.

Also wouldn't be unfair for a team in an off year, Yakupov year, to be ineligible because they got the first overall pick that year? Like the difference between Yakupov (and what was expected from him) to McDavid, there is no comparison.

Wouldn't matter if it was "fair" or not (re: talent level from one year to the next). If a team couldn't take 1st over-all more than once every 4-5 years it would put an end to tanking.

Better yet eliminate the entry draft altogether and let prospects walk straight into free-agency. Wouldn't be quite as much fun but if eliminating tanking is a real priority that would be how to do it. Just for the sake of argument....

Personally I don't have a problem with tanking. If that is the best way to improve your team then I say it's all well and good. Especially here in fantasy land. I would rather have an active tanker in my league than a GM that is mediocre and disinterested.
