Ottawa management announce a trade with San Jose.
TO OTTAWA
C, Brad Richards, $4.5m (2013-2016)
TO SJ
LW - John Gaudreau (2011: 4/104 - 1 Games) GP updated July 1, 2014
C, Jordan Nolan, $0.4m (2012-2014)
D, Niklas Kronwall, $5.7m (2012-2016)
Ottawa management make this trade to acquire a veteran pivot with a track record of filling the score sheet. Richards has a reasonable cap hit. We are moving a large contract in Kronwall so we included Gaudreau to balance the trade.
San Jose to confirm.

:SJ: Sharks confirm this deal.
We got a good offer for Center Brad Richards and figured we could use the D since we've only got 5 D signed for the upcoming season. Kronwall still plays for Motown and they still have firepower so that helps us out in the scoring department. Nolan will be a serviceable C with a cheap contract extension. Finally we always regretted dealing Johnny Gaudreau last year and we're really excited to have him return home to the Sharks who drafted him in 2011.
Good dealing with you DD. Hope it works out for our teams. :toast:

Now that Brad is a Hawk he is more interesting to me.
Happy we could work it out quickly. :toast:

I give the win to SJ, but I do love watching people get Kronwalled. Gaudreau is also promising. OTT hopely gets a good piece in Richards and saves some cap. Richards did alright in NY and he is getting old, but I think his new environment will be good for him. Good trade fellas!

Not surprised Dickie Dunn moved on the newest Blackhawk. At first it looks.like a win to :SJ: but as Izaman3 mentioned Richards is no spring chicken. :OTT: also saves +1.6m in cap so in the end this seems to be a balanced trade. The eventual tie breaker could be John Gaudreau and how good or average he is in the NHL.

:iatp: I got to give this to :SJ: for getting a bag of goodies to help their team out all around. Brad might not even gel with his new teammates in the windy city. He certainly didn't light it up on broadway with Nash and others by his side. Not to mention he seems to be on the back-9 at this stage of his career.

I guess we can process this trade now that we have our TC votes accounted for.
I think Brad will be more potent in Chicago especially with the supporting cast the Blackhawks have. Burke wanted to get younger so I think this is a win-win for our teams.
