Title: Florida / LA Trade
Post by: PigsRule on June 12, 2014, 07:37:44 PM

:FLO: Florida Panthers trade grizzlie veteran Winger Franzen along with up and coming Defeceman Despres to the :LAK: Kings for Voynov and a draft pick.

To :FLO:
D - Slava Voynov, $0.9m (2014-2015)
Round 2 - 2014 (from :LAK:)

To :LAK:
LW/RW - Johan Franzen, $4.0m (2017-2018)
D - Simon Despres, $1.0m (2012-2015-EL)

Kings asked about Despres + a high-scoring Winger, our asking price was Voynov who replaces Despres on D while giving us some cap flexibility. Franzen is a workhorse who puts up big points yr-over-yr.

In making this deal, Panthers hope Drouin will be ready for big league action in 2014-15 and gain RW plus Centre eligibility. Meh, we can dream!  :P

Dickie Dunn to confirm.

:LAK: Kings management confirms this trade. We wanted a scoring winger and are pleasantly surprised to be able to acquire Moose Franzen. Simon Despres was our primary trade target because he is talented and plays for a Penguins team looking to get more production from their line-up under new management next season. Voynov is young, talented and productive however Franzen and Despres more than replace the fantasy points void he leaves behind.

We are very pleased with this trade.

Good doing business with you Florida. :toast:

I'll give the edge to LA for getting more points out of this deal.

I give LA the win in this deal, even though Franzen can be very hot and cold and has some injury history  :soapbox: he's a great scorer at such a reasonable cap hit. But Voynov is looking like he's going to be a great d-man for a long time, so he's a good pickup.

:iatp: Clear win to LA. Agree with Izaman, Franzen has a very reasonable cap hit for what he brings which is 2.0+ pts per game and eligibility at both Right and Left wing. Voynov will likely get a huge raise next yr so he's not the best value out there on the blueline.

Good trade overall for both.

I realize Voynov only has 1 yr left on his current deal and could end up being a costly resign or might have to let him walk. Franzen is a sell high guy and although he is a beast of a winger with a great contract relative to his pt production, he could be more of an injury risk in coming yrs. Despres is still a great prospect but I didnt feel like waiting for him to come around. I'm also happy to free up $4m for future moves.
