Title: Jets and Flames blockbuster
Post by: JohnnyWeissflog on January 31, 2014, 02:32:25 PM
:WIN: and :CLG: complete negotiations for the following blockbuster:

To Winnipeg
Artem Anisimov, $6.0m (2011-2015)
Dmitry Kulikov, $2.4m (2013-2016)
Lars Eller, $4.7m (2013-2016)
Jared Spurgeon, $1.5m (2011-2014)
Round 3 - 2014 Blackhawks
14.6 (Save 1.1 million)

To Calgary
Ilya Bryzgalov, $13.7m (2015-2016)
Chris Kreider, $2.0m (2014-2015-EL)
Round 1 - 2014 Jets
Round 2 - 2014 Jets
D - Slater Koekkoek (2012: 1/10 - 0 Games)
15.7 cap

:WIN: make this deal in order to be ready for the soon starting postseason.
Ever since I took over Jets' franchise a year ago, my hands have been pretty tied with the huge contract of Bryzgalov. I actually couldn't keep the contracts of Marleau, Pavelski and Campbell because of salary cap problems. I missed the amnesty B/O window, and have been kicking myself to the head ever since.

Our prospect pool is in very good shape, allowing me to sell one of De Haan/Koekkoek/Zadorov. Seeing Kreider and Koekkoek leave is definitely sad but I am very delighted to see some new quality guys in Jets jersey and make a push to the Stanley Cup finals.

Calgary can continue their rebuild mode - these pieces should give them a substantial boost. Let's see what you will do with Bryzgalov

:CLG: to confirm  :toast:

:CLG: accepts and confirmS this trade! :iatp:

We started talking to Winnipeg about Bryzgalov as soon as we bought the Flames and before we landed Bernier in a deal with :LA: but felt a deal to add another goalie in this goalie starved league still had legs.

Getting the other players and picks in this trade was important given how much we had to trade off our active roster to land Ilya and his crazy previously unmoveable contract! Worse case scenario we use a Amnesty Buyout to flush Bryzgalov if he cant secure the starting gig with the real Oilers (looks shakey now with Ben Scrivens playing well). Best case scenario is we still cut Bryzgalov to clear cap as part of our rebuilding plan! We are not afraid to cut bait either way.

This deal also sees the last of the Habs on my team flushed along with a few other big contracts I didnt want around. Ha ha

Johnny, we basically traded for each other's problems and it works nicely!  :toast:

Never thought I'd see the day, but both teams worked something out and its actually not a bad deal. I don't even want to know how long it took to hammer that one out.

Gentlemen! Good work putting this beast of a deal together!

JD that's a crazy plan but the package your Flames receive justifies trading away a bunch of core players. I think anything short of that package and we would've all vetoed the trade because Bryzgalov is no sure bet to stick around the NHL and your team would be stuck like the Jets were.

Jets add a ton of scoring. That 6m Anisimov cap hit is not pretty but way better than 13.7 cap hit from Bryzgalov.

Good trade for both teams. Winnipeg wins now hands down. Flames, well we'll see what else happens because I don't think they're done by a country mile!

Just 2 super savvy owners getting the deal done boys!
Johnny is great to work with! Cheers mate!  :toast:

PPG we're definitely not done. More deals in the works but likely no more blockbusters like these but we'll see what happens.

No doubt :WIN: wins this trade. As Izaman3 said, never thought I'd see the day that contract gets moved.

Winnipeg caught a break with Ilya Bryzgalov signing in Edmonton because that $13.7 Million cap killer was a pure buy-out waiting to happen. Not only did the Jets get rid of a cap headache but got a really good package in return. There's a slim chance Calgary wins down the line if they turn those draft picks into something of value but there's no guarantee at the draft table and those are both late 1st and 2nd Round Picks given how high Winnipeg is ranked so much so they might as well be high 2nd and 3rd Round Picks.
