Hawks announce a 6 player deal with the Calgary Flames to add some frontline scoring for our playoff drive.
To CGY
Minor Leaguer C - Tanner Richard (2012: 3/71 - 0 Games) Bluechip prospect
Luke Schenn, $5.8m (2012-2016) 62.85 pts
LW Ryan Jones, $0.2m (2013-2015) 36.95
Minor Leaguer C - Chandler Stephenson (2012: 3/77 - 0 Games) decent prospect filler
Round 3 - 2014 (CHI)
6.0m in salary
To CHI
LW Max Pacioretty, $3.7m (2011-2014) 102.05 pts
D Josh Gorges, $1.3m (2013-2015) 40.05
5.0m in salary
Chicago ships off pieces of its future in Tanner and mid-round pick plus some veteran players to rent Pacioretty for 2months! Gorges helps balance the budget on this deal and the additional MiLR prospect was included because Calgary wants to restock the farm.
Not sure we want to resign Max at the end of the year at 7 million per so for my Hawks this is likely an expensive player rental.
Flames to confirm trade. JD, good working with you man! :toast:
-
I Veto the deal. I don't think this deal helps Calgary at all.
Gorges is way cheaper then Schenn and only marginally worse in points and even to rent Max that isn't enough.
I would need to see a 1st round pick or solid player added before I could approve.
I like the idea it just needs some work.

Flames accept because Max isn't likely getting an extension of 7.1m from us anytime soon.
As for Rip's comments, get me a similar offer plus a 1st rd pick and I'd gladly make that deal. Offer extended to all teams in fact.
-
There is no way you can justify trading your best player?
3 3rd round picks = NOTHING.
Schenn is more of a salary dump and you'd be way better to re-sign Max then add $4M plus in D $$.
For the betterment of the league please review.
-
So Rip you're vetoing because there's a better package out there for a Winger due a 7.1m extension with a history of serious head injury and you would like to tell me the package of prospects, veterans and a draft pick is not enough for 2 mth player rental?
As far as I'm concerned if you think I should be saved Rip, counter the offer on the table with one from your :STL-NHL: Blues that includes a 1st rd pk, prospects and vets for the 2mth rental. Hit me with a better deal or anyone who wants to block this from happening. Flames are open to all better offers.
I'm here to rebuild a team and be active doing it.
Post an offer Rip. :toast:

Whether this trade goes through or not won't make or break my Hawks.
From my POV we're paying fair market value for a guy that will play 2 months for us.
Also if someone believes Tanner Richard is only worth a 3rd because he was drafted in the 3rd RD there'd be something wrong with that logic. That's like saying Datsyuk is worth no more than a 6th Rounder because he was drafted in the 6th or 171st in the 1998 Entry Draft. LOL
I leave it to the rest of :TC: to render a decision. :judge:

:iatp:
I approve this deal. Both GMs are invested and knowledgeable. I think this is acceptable value for truly a rental player and if other teams are shopping for rentals or would have offered more than they could have been more proactive.
That's my 2 cents anyhow.
-
:iatp:
If Pacioretty had another full year on his contract at $3.7 Million then yes, easily worth more in trade. Given the expiring contract with 3 weeks to play out the regular season and Calgary in rebuilding mode I understand the direction Calgary is headed with this trade.
Win to the Blackhawks now but Win to Calgary once Max's current contract expires for getting something for what amounts to Josh Gorges.
-
LOL
This isn't even a 2 month rental.
It's a 3 weeks rental because of the Olympic break for most of February. :soapbox:

lets keep it professional and friendly ppl.
I respect ripper's feedback and he's entitled to vote. its important for TC to voice concern over unbalanced trades that could hurt one of the teams if not handicap the franchise for several seasons.
-
if this trade does go thru :CHI-NHL: would own Max Pac for 3 wks during the reg.season and however long their post season run lasts... as a pure rental its a decent trade as izaman and dickiedunn mentioned. cap hits are similar and if Max Pac walks yr end :CHI-NHL: ends up with only 1 assets in D Josh Gorges who's serviceable but by no means anywhere close to approaching stud status.
i would be first to not just veto a deal but kill it altogether if I felt a trade was truly detrimental to a team. in this case I believe :CLG: comes out ahead long run.

Let's get confirmation that Max will be going to free agency 100 percent. If that is confirmed I will approve. Boys don't take it personal when I speak up I think both of you are great GM's.

Sometimes owners have plans they don't want to completely spellout to the masses.
Rip in FNHL a $7 million contract is tough to handle especially because we follow the NHL cap which dropped this season and for a guy like Max to earn that and eat up 10% of my teams cap wouldnt make sense on a team rebuilding its roster.
Been here 3 seasons and definitely not looking to blow up franchises without piecing them back together quickly. I like to move fast and get things done. :toast:
-
Then why would you add a $5.8M dollar mid pack D man? $1.3 M more and you keep your best player.
-
Cuz in a league full of Flyers fans and teams always looking for prime D Luke is the bett player to hold while I rebuild. Who said Schenn is even on my Flames roster beyond February's trade deadline?
Have you seen Schenn's stats from last season?
-
Rip do you honestly believe Max is a $7.1 million player.
Even on fantasy he's not worth 7 to me or most teams here.
You couldve had him but you didnt want to post an offer.

If someone doesn't make me an interesting offer before the guy's contract expires my Hawks will let him walk to FA.
He's purely an expensive rental. LOL
-
Fair enough, a cheap rental, but as long as he is just a rental.........
:iatp:
-
There will be much better priced Wingers to spend 7m on. You can take that to the bank! :toast:
-
3 TC Yes votes
1 TC Conditional Yes vote by Ripper (as long as CHI-NHL released Pacioretty to FA once the player's contract expires)
Ready for processing.
