Chicago completes a deal with San Jose to acquire a few players we hope will help get our team closer to the Stanley Cup.

To CHI
C - Mark Scheifele (2011: 1/7 - 25 Games)
Brooks Orpik, $1.5m (2013-2016)

To SJS
Round 2 - 2014 :CHI-NHL:
Brian Gibbons, $0.2m (2013-2015)
Brendan Morrow, $1.0m (2013-2015)
Colin McDonald, $0.2m (2012-2014)
C - Nicolas Petan (2013: 2/43 - 0 Games)

Sharks risk losing Scheifele to FA and we think he can help our Hawks as a role player. We ship our 2nd Round Pick in 2014 to San Jose along with a package of point producers and a good prospect with great hands in Petan.

:SJ: agrees to this trade!
We picked this deal over a few others we tossed around with a couple of other teams. The packahe we get helps us now and down the line. We are already up against the cap and had to either dump roster players to promote Mark, let him walk to free agency or put a deal together to move him while adding pieces that help our team.

:iatp:  Looks like a good package of players and pick for a prospect that was on the verge of hitting FA. Slight edge to the Sharks for getting a deal done at the 11th hour and landing players with affordable contracts. Mark Scheifele is scheduled to receive a 2.5m Entry Level contract.
