Title: Draft Pick Compensation for losing free agents
Post by: Bazinga McCringa on October 15, 2013, 03:13:10 PM
Any interest in providing draft pick compensation for losing valuable free agents, so we can more closely simulate the MLB CBA's qualifying offer" policy? Something like an extension value ranking above a certain percentile... (the team that loses the FA has to pay half of extension value for 1 year)

No interest.  I think the compensation in MLB is a way to help small market teams that don't have the same ability to resign their own free agents as large market teams.  We have a set cap for all teams here so there's no competitive disadvantage for anyone in that sense.

I agree with Chrisetc21. No interest for me. Nice idea but the salary cap makes it unnecessary.

No interest here, too complicated.

Not really needed due to cap restraints for everyone.  Plus another big pain to track.

Thanks for the ideas though.

Good idea but I agree that it's not needed with the hard-cap.
