Title: Some Discussion - How is Free Agency Going & Who is Doing Best
Post by: Drew on August 03, 2013, 09:22:53 PM
How is your free agency going? What are you happy you got or didn't get or disappointed about?

Who do you think is doing very well, as no transactions have been processed yet?

Looking to make some discussion!

Unhappy I missed my chance to up the bid on Henrik Sedin. I had something like an hour long window open to do it in but got sidetracked at home. Really nice score there Drew!

Have enjoyed the competative bidding on a few of the blue-chippers. Pietrangelo, Ladd, and the Schenns have all impacted on each other allowing a few guys to make nice moves on some of the alternatives.

Yahoo's acquisitions of Marchand and Yandle comes to mind.

Happy with Yandle and Marchand for sure. Missed out on Ramo but too pricey for me. Lots of nice Centers available. Too bad I don't need one.

I am super happy to get Sedin at half his real salary. I am also happy with Hartnell at $3m as well but others probably think I overpaided.

Goalies are going high as per usual but was hoping to get a goalie like Labarbre or Giguere for under a million or Ramo for under 2 but they quickly exceeded though values for me.

I love Parenteau but couldn't afford him when I need defense. He is currently only like $3.4m for 2 years or $3.0m for 3 years. He was gold for me last year.

Winnipeg has picked up a couple studs already in Marchard and Yandle and I like what Philly has picked up as well.

I really like my returns so far. A first line center for $4M is pretty solid. I am really surprised I got Ryder at $1.8M. The guy has been nothing but amazing in the last two seasons. Hopefully he gets a bigger role with the Devils.

Actually, I am more impressed that there is not any heavy bids. Last year, a lot of the bigger names got heavy contracts. For example - Ryan Callahan and Niklas Kronwall (and both players needed a reward usage to get their contracts in their current range). This year, everyone seems to be falling into the $3-$4 millish range. I guess losing $7M in cap space will do that lol.

Others of note:

The contracts on Hank Sedin, Patrick Elias, and Brad Marchand are going to be steals.

If Letestu continues his upwards climb, 700k is going to look very cheap.

I like these. Kindaa like your own little blog   Well so far I woudn't say I'm jumping for joy or banging my head. No secret going in I was going after Ramo........ and no secret my season depends on him playing. Wasn't too chipper to have to pay the guy 3m.......but these are desperate times!!! I'm pretty happy getting Schenn and think he will be well worth the 4m by the end of the contract.

The big winners for me are Edm, Phil, Win, Chi. Great job guys :toast:

It's never good when the two time champ is one of someones winners. Why isn't SlackJack upping the bid on his players

Well in the beinging thought I get what I want in the end think I got a few high contracts for some players and a way over priced backup goalie but at least guarantee starts for edm as long as nothing else happens there really like stews pick ups with sedin

I am really happy with how FA has went for me. I have picked up a couple of players that had bad years last year for cheap and I am hoping that they go back to their career averages. I am surprised at how little some players are going for and how much others that I didn't expect to go so high are going for

Just added Stephen Weiss for $2.5m a season and he should be even better on the :DET-NHL:......pumped about adding Weiss with Yandle and Marchand

Wanted a goalie but just couldn't pay that much.  Have a lot to offer in a trade though now.

Totally overpaid for Frank Corrado though!  Booooooo......hopefully :VAN: uses him on the PP eventually this year

As soon as I seen your last offer on him, I folded lol. That is a high price for him, but Vancouver's defense looks pretty barren right now. There is a good chance he plays, but who knows how well he will produce.

I think :PHI-NHL: might have the biggest steal getting Ryder for so cheap.

If it wasn't for Zeus overbidding a number of GMs would have got good deals.

Had a closer look....he put out $19m in bids with only $12m in cap space. Caused a real chain reaction forcing me to bid up Schenn after getting pushed off of Koivu and Ribeiro. That's probably just the tip of it....that extra $7m probably did a lot of damage. No small amount to Montreal itself if he ends up moving Schneider just for cap room. Interesting stuff.

:DAL-NHL:  I think i did well with not much cap to work with  :toth:

Signed 5 palyers ( 2D - 2LW and 1 C/RW ) compiling 6.04 FP/G for $4.5m/year

some of you singed 1 player for the same price or over and they put up arround 2 FP/G  :bump:

:MIN-NHL: Didn't have much cap room after my deal with Reimer involved, but I did sign Joel Ward and Cody Eakin.

I like Eakin a lot as a young player, and I really needed another RW, and Ward fills that void.  1.5m/year isn't terrible to pay him.  Probably a little too much, but couldn't afford to get in a bidding war for a bigger named player.

I think :PHI-NHL: is the big winner so far though.  :win:

I figured I would give it a shot and stop the bleeding. Worst case he stays in my minor league system.

Worst case, he learns the hard way in vans 7th spot and improves for the following season. I see the kid playing well, but I learned my lesson on postma in regards to how much I should pay for young dmen.
