Baltimore Orioles
History
2021:
4th in AL East (57-105)
The 2021 season was the beginning of the rebuilding process for the new
GM. After taking over a team with some egregious contracts, tdtdtd began shedding some of the underperforming players with bloated contracts. The 2022 off-season will be just another step towards acquiring players who will improve the competitive edge for the
. Rebuilding the
via trades and free agency will be a key to the team?s future success.
2020:
8th in East Division (22-38)
The
started out slowly and kept falling back in our 60 game season. Beyond Luis Castillo, the rotation has some definite needs. The
everyday lineup is also in need of some help, so with its available cap, maybe the
can acquire some impact free agents. After one season, the
new GM went MIA and was replaced by tdtdtd for the 2021 campaign.
2019:
3rd in AL East (75-87)
The
continued their slide and fell to 3rd in the AL East. Finishing 57 games behind
, the
missed the playoffs. With their downward spiral, their longtime GM, Shooter47, announced he was leaving the league to focus on his buddin family.
2018:
2nd in AL East (108-54)
The
slipped a bit in 2018 and fell to 2nd behind the upstart
. Entering the playoffs as a Wild Card team, the
made a quick exit after losing to the
2017:
1st in AL East (134-28)
The
continued their dominance of the AL East, winning the division by 37 games. At season?s end, the
found themselves as the #1 Seed. In the ALDS, the BAL: easily defeated the
, winning by more than 900 points. The ALCS was again the end of the road for the
, as they lost to the eventual FGM champions
by some 300 points.
2016:
1st in AL East (95-61)
The
certainly turned it around in 2016 going from last to 1st and capturing the AL East crown. Going into the playoffs as one of the top teams, the
easily disposed of the
in the ALDS. However, the
were upended by the
in the ALCS and we?re denied a chance to compete in the FGM World Series.
2015:
5th in AL East (33-57)
The
had some real assets in Kris Bryant, Miguel Sano, and Anthony Rendon, but it had some holes in their everyday lineup and simply couldn?t compete in the AL East.
2014:
4th in AL East (51-90)
The
were hurt by an injury to Chris Sale, but their rotation was improved overall. The
plateaued a bit by again finishing 4th in the AL East, but they continue to rebuild a competitive team.
2013:
4th in AL East (62-79)
Adding players like Anthony Rendon, Alex Rios, and several other hitters, along with the emergence of Shelby Miller led to an improvement of 57 games in the win column. The
climbed to 4th in the AL East and are headed in the right direction.
2012:
5th in AL East (5-155)
Any time a team sustains 155 losses there is an assumption that things have to get better. The
have two quality SPs in Chris Sale and Patrick Corbin, but not much else. Rebuilding through the draft is a tough process, but it also requires intensive research and steadfast patience. We have confidence that Shooter47 will get it done.
2011:
5th in AL East (50-112)
Laura resigned and was replaced with the wandering GM, Jason Zimmerman. He kept some of Laura's philosophy intact and signed Michael Young to a FA deal. He was unable to fill the coaching position (a.k.a. setting the lineups) and was fired for inactivity at the beginning of the season. Bob Smith continued the rebuilding project that Laura set out to do and sent Kendry Morales (before his 2nd surgery), Michael Young, and some pitchers packing to build one of the best farms in baseball. Baltimore finished with the worst record in the league once again (same record too) losing over 110 games. Where will the Orioles be in 2013?
2010:
5th in AL East (50-112)
Immediately, the new GM, ravaged the franchise by trading away its solid outfield and the renowned Matt Weiters. Mr. Harrison did manage to bring in a talented outfield at a lesser price, gave the rotation a face lift, and acquire Neftali Feliz and Jonathan Broxton. He eventually resigned from the position and was immediately replaced by Dennis Tresca. The hiring of Tresca was a mistake by the O's as the new GM did absolutely nothing (not even any communication with staff) in his short tenure. He was promptly let go before the start of the season.
Because of Tresca, the league started a two-week probationary period until GMs were officially hired. This was tested on his replacement, Laura Fields, who was officially hired upon proving herself. Laura shipped several veterans and replenished the team with youth from the major league level downward. The rebuilding project led to a dismal record for the Orioles in 2010, but the team finished with promising young pitchers. Laura took advantage of playoff contending teams by trading for injured stars like Kendry Morales.
2009:
5th in AL East (65-97)
The O's played bad for even themselves in 2009. The supposed "Draft Expert", Eric Eckstein did little to help the team turn its fortunes around and was fired by ownership headed into 2010.

Also agreed. Top quality pitching probably means not much depth. A few injuries can challenge you. Pitching other than top end pitching has been devalued in fantasy. Everyone wants the stud.

I here to tell you that ALL major league pitching is good pitching. A great hitter beats a terrible pitcher just 3 out of 10 times. Which means the worst pitchers > the greatest hitters.

He had that view b/c of his father who was a blackjack dealer in Vegas.

Yes @Brent!! That is it exactly. Pitching is the house & it always wins in the end.

The problem with the minors is not the system as a whole, it is some Farm Systems are more 'elite' at being able to produce talent than others. If you look across MLB teams you can pretty easily tell the great systems from the weaker systems and talent development

With regard to pitching in the Minors...there is method to the madness. It is all about what you make of it tho. I agree that it can seem certain type arms in the minors are a dime a dozen
