The salary cap will be increased to $87m for the 19/20 season. This is an increase of $5.6m from last year. The NHL increased their cap by 6% and for the first time since we started updating relative to actual NHL team's cap room, we came in under the NHL average, which increased the cap by an additional 0.7m per year. My math is below.
79.5m/75m = 1.06
1.06 * 81.4m = 86.3m
4.8 - 5.5 = -0.7
86.3m - (-0.7) = 87m
