C David Garcia 500k ARB 2026
MI Luis Verdugo

CI Matt Carpenter 21m 2023  (10m, 8m and 6m paid over contract respectively already)
:MIL: will also pay 4m in 2023... net cap hit is 11/13/11m respectively

Tampa Bay trades:

C Jose Trevino 550k ARB 2024
CI Mike Moustakas 20m 2023
:TB: pays 15m 2021 and 15m 2022

I'm all in to make a run now and looking to keep my cap space as high as possible in offseason to resign 3 key expiring bats. This deal in theory does both. Even though there is uncertainty on Moustaka's return, recent new is positive so I am relatively confident he will be back and producing before our playoffs start. It was not that long ago Carpenter was one of the better players in the league but at his age and massive decline, even with previous $ paid, he is a negative value at this point. Unloading all but a few mill on the back end is very useful given my situation.

Giving up such a big package of picks plus good chunk of future funds hurts, but my window to win is now so ok with this move. I will simply look for ways to improve my farm over the next 2-3 years with less than ideal set of assets to work with currently.

Buckets of Dimes: Rules / Off Season Poll #3 (Position Eligibility)
« on: July 24, 2021, 05:54:03 PM »
I don't think position eligibility on Fantrax has been an issue but also not really addressed, so a very fair question came up to look into it. There are different ways we could do this, but here is proposal I'd like to pass. If there happens to be lots of objection I am open to other ideas but I also think proposed way is flexible and fair way to go about it.

Player will be eligible for a particular position based on if they meet at least 1 criteria below

1. Whatever Fantrax has them at, be it a single or more than 1 position (this will not be changed, but a additional position(s) may be added)

2. If...  https://www.spotrac.com has player at a different postion than Fantrax does (will gain whatever sportac shows)

Note: spotrac will continue to remain source of truth for position eligibility specifically when it comes to franchise tag. This has worked nicely and do not want to change.

3. If... You can show credible source stating that in the previous season player has played majority of games at a position that differs from both Fantrax and Spotrac (Only looking at the previous season, so this change would be allowed only in off season)

Note: https://www.basketball-reference.com is always a good source to check but I will accept anything credible that shows proof

Specific example of how this might impact players, here is Demar Derozan, who is basically a true SG for most of his career up until recently:

1. Fantrax has him SG

2. spotrac has him SG
https://www.spotrac.com/nba/san-antonio-spurs/demar-derozan-6327/

3. based on 2020-21 season and looking at basketball reference Derozan actually played primary PF
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/d/derozde01.html

Based on this, for the 2021-22 season if this change passes Derozan will have SG and PF eligibility (a rather unique combination but think it is fair)

Final note, I do not plan to check all players so it will be up to GM to post the necessary proof if this passes and at this point it will be updated. Any questions feel free to post but hopefully this is straight forward.

  • Daddy: I here to tell you that ALL major league pitching is good pitching. A great hitter beats a terrible pitcher just 3 out of 10 times. Which means the worst pitchers > the greatest hitters.

  • Braves155: The problem with the minors is not the system as a whole, it is some Farm Systems are more 'elite' at being able to produce talent than others. If you look across MLB teams you can pretty easily tell the great systems from the weaker systems and talent development

  • Braves155: With regard to pitching in the Minors...there is  method to the madness. It is all about what you make of it tho. I agree that it can seem certain type arms in the minors are a dime a dozen

  • Daddy: Mr Braves you are my guy. There isnt anything wrong with minor league studs or flops. I get it in REAL baseball.
    May 05, 2024, 06:20:28 PM
  • Daddy: This is fantasy baseball. We dont generate revenue selling prospects and merchandising. Our top farms dont get a write up in Sports Illustrated.
    May 05, 2024, 06:22:29 PM
  • Daddy: Load up on MLB guys, then near MLB guys, and only then is the quality of your prospects matter. Ya dig ;)
