Title: DISCUSSION: Tentative mid-late JULY Season End, Impacts?
Post by: PsychoticPondGoons on June 02, 2020, 12:28:55 PM
Crow brought up a good point about Free Agency starting before the NHL confirms a new set of salary cap figures for next season.

For PR and myself, given all the COVID-19 impacts on the NHL's revenue, the cap for 2020-21 will likely remain the same and possibly get cut back below the current 81.5m.

So I propose FNHL takes the initiative to decide the 2020-21 cap remain the same as the 2019-20 cap figure, 81.5m cap ceiling.

Thoughts? Jump in FNHL owners.

So June 25th is the proposed date to say the 2019-20 season ends and the start of the 2020-21 offseason begins. Is that correct? If so, I'm all for it.

I think by that date, FNHL needs to confirm
Salary Cap floor and ceiling
Seems the revised draft dates for entry and supplemental will work

Considering a June 25th end date (or start date, depending how you look at things hahaha), and assuming the NHL's 2020-21 season will only start in November or later, FNHL might have a long break between end of FA and start of 2020-21 season. That could be a good thing allowing more time for trades and trade discussions.

I think until we hear the cap info last seasons would be used as a measure. If the cap goes down which I doubt it will, I think we use 19-20 cap. I am ALL for moving forward

Good to see everyone is well.

I’m ok with the proposed dates and cap extended as is. I like the collective contributions and thoughts identifying pitfalls. I think we’ll make the best decisions given the difficult situation.

Keep up the distancing and patience. Looking forward to the return

We might have to push the season end date to mid-July as few ppl have responded.

Also, by mid-July there should be more NHL activity to jumpstart FNHL owner interest in hockey.

Fine with keeping the cap the same as this year, also can't see the NHL lowering the cap unless they give teams atleast one compulsory buyout option.

Which can't see get passed at a NHL GM meeting or ever gaining the agreement of the NHLPA.
Even though Tampa, Calgary and Chicago would vote Yes in a heart beat.

I would like to move the season end date to mid-July.

That would ensure most/ALL owners are re-engaged to manage their teams and allow us new owners to do some work with extensions and trades after take time to see what's available from other teams.

Agree the cap should remain the same at 81.5M to move the season fwd.

:iatp:
:CHI-NHL: Chicago management agrees with keeping the salary cap ceiling at $81.5m for the 2020-21 season.

As for the official season end date, I suggest mid-July as well given the need to re-start owner activity in this league.

Once the Commissioners set the end date for what would have been the day after the Franchise NHL Finals, we will have plenty of time for trades, contract extensions, and preparation for roll-over and Free Agency.

:iatp: I'm in agreement with Dickie. Mid-July FNHL season end date (not the rollover) and keep the cap ceiling at $81.5. Can't wait for hockey to restart.

Agree with keeping the ceiling at 81.5m.

End date should be July 10th to sync with the NHL's re-start and the opening of NHL training camps.

The trend is to use a mid-July end date, July 10th is a good suggestion. :toast:

Is the supplemental draft still starting 6/27? Or has that been moved to after 7/10?

And if it starts tomorrow, has the lottery for the supp draft been run?

Last question ... are we using Fantrax or this site for the supp draft?

I think we should push the season end date back. Looking through which FNHL owners have been on this site, I would say approximately 40% have checked in within the last 30 days.

Perhaps we let the NHL restart it's July 10th Phase 3 activities and then we wait a couple of weeks to see whether the NHL can get off the ground. Just some thoughts.

Been thinking of letting the NHL take the lead before FNHL updates our dates... so July 10th is off the table and a later date in July is in the works... Stay Tuned for an announcement from PPG!

Looks like the NHL will maintain a $81.5m cap for 2020-21. FNHL is ahead of the game, that was our number too! :taco::taco::judge:
