San Diego agrees to trade 2B Joe Panik $1.5m (2021) and SP Hyun-Jin Ryu $0.3m (2019) to Philadelphia in exchange for 2B Jason Kipnis $5.5m (2019) and SP Rick Porcello $6.7m (2022).
San Diego has much salary cap to make this trade 2 for 2 players receiving 2 quality experienced players who hopefully will rebound to help Padres this year. Phillies to confirm, and ty Kevin.

Philly confirms, I was looking to trade these 2 guys from my take over of this team, and I get 2 guys I like in return plus cap space. Thanks DMarch fir the easy deal!

Although it looks like SD could have gotten these 2 players for free if waited another day, as they would be in free agency as Philly had dropped them a day ago. Interesting.
But if SD would have dropped these 2 players going to Philly to make room for Kip and Porc on the esoteric, then all he eats is cap space which doesn’t matter to him so I guess all the same

Right on, however, the Phillies were unable to drop both Kipnis & Porcello because it would have caused a -$18m cap penalty. I suggested to Kev (Philadelphia) to make a deal with some team. This was done quickly and I believe worked out for both teams. San Diego off to 0-3 start plus having +$41m cap available needed some change in personal.
