Post by: OUDAN on September 17, 2012, 12:00:39 PM
Hey guys I looked through the rules I may have over looked this but I thought I could just ask here prolly incase others wanted to know.

Yeah then is it the MLB regular season or after FGM WS or what. I have a guy I need to know on. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The rules state the following:

Players with expired contracts are lost to the FA pool after the regular season.  For example, a 2011 contract (non-prospect) will become a free agent unless the player was signed to an extension during the regular season (fantasy play).

Unfortunately, the deadline has passed to re-sign non-prospects with expiring contracts.

Well that sucks guess I should have looked harder. Every other league lets u resign after the season I just made a mistake and assumed this one did too. On the bright side someone will get to overpay Melky in free agency now lol

I asked this question in a post and Colby posted that we had a week or two following the season.  That was what I was going on, so I plan to extend a player.

Stated pretty clearly, this is what I was going by and purposely delayed an extension after this post.

Now this is what I was expecting!

Rob/Dan,

I am sorry, I do not know where Colby got that idea.  Perhaps, he was thinking about prospect extensions.  We use the written rules in cases like this.  The re-sign deadlines are treated as strictly as the trade deadline.

Roy,

I'm not trying to undermine you. I honestly thought it was at the end of the MLB season, and still do. There have been very few re-signs of players, so it is seems as if the entire league is unaware of the rule. IMO it should be extended this season (I swear it was at the end of the MLB season + a week last season - as Rob and I handled it), and all the GMs should be made aware via PM the dates.

That is crap.  I have had plans to resign Jordan Zimmerman for months now, but since the former commissioner and CEO of the site posted I get time after the season, I decided to hold off.  I will continue to push this issue.  That is not fair.

1.  Jordan Zimmerman is a prospect and can be re-signed after the season.  See following rule:

Prospect extensions on expired prospect contracts will be the only type of extensions allowable for expired contracts in the offseason.  Therefore, after the 2011 regular season is over, a P-2011 contract is still eligible for the prospect extension at the 2011 rate.  This window for prospect extensions is open until one week prior to the beginning of offseason free agency.

2.  The words of anyone, including the Commissioner, former Commissioners, or the CEO of the site itself is not above the written rules of the league.  That has always been the policy.  I don't wish to re-hash the whole prospect extension issue from my first year in the league when Colby made me a personal assurance as Commissioner that I could re-sign players on non-prospect contracts to prospect extensions only to be over-ruled by other members of the league.

I was not responsible for the league last year, but the issue of "hard" and "soft" deadlines came up during the Prado waiver fiasco, and it was determined that there were hard and soft deadlines depending on whether the transactions involved affected roster management or cap management.  The re-sign deadline, much like the trade deadline, is a clear example of a hard deadline.

The fact is that it was the end of the MLB season last year. No GM was made aware that the deadline was approaching, so it varies from last year, thus changing expectations. Plus, most don't know that the season has ended. I had no idea the WS was over. I'm all for hard caps, but when the entire league, including 4 very active and aware members (Colby, me, Corey, and rob) had no idea this deadline had passed, that may be a problem in communication. After all it is a really important date.

Rob and others, please don't bring me into this without me posting in this thread.

I believe some people asked me about the rules and I gave what I knew off the top of my head.  I thought it was until the end of the MLB regular season.  Free agency has always ended at the end of the fantasy regular season but we have had contract extensions until the end of the MLB regular season or a couple weeks afterward.  The key reason is that many want to wait until a player's market value is finalized.

I will give this further thought and decide tomorrow whether or not to put this to a vote before the RC.

Yes, I apologize to you and Roy, I should have handled it better.
