Title: FGM12 Playoff Discussion
Post by: Colby on August 20, 2012, 03:46:11 PM
:HOU: Houston beat :PHI: Philadelphia in the NLWC
:BOS: Boston upset :TEX: Texas in the ALWC

:OAK: Oakland vs. :BOS: Boston
:NYY: New York vs. :CLE: Cleveland

:LAD: Los Angeles vs. :HOU: Houston
:STL: St. Louis vs. :WAS: Washington

The stories... Rangers and Phillies falling late season.  While they easily make wildcard, they lose to opponents to fail to advance.  A's, Yankees, and Dodgers highlight dominant teams of FGM history.  Cleveland finally gets to show what it is made of in the AL.  Boston is back in the playoffs.  Houston and St. Louis, both FGM NL Central strongholds are back in the playoffs are making it once in the past three years.  Washington makes the playoffs for the first time ever (for this iteration of the Nationals).

I really think I have a bit more 'star power' than Paul's Cardinals do, but his team is the mark of consistency.  Should be a great matchup, and it doesn't hurt I have three hurlers going tonight. :koolaid:

It should be a great series Jake.  Maybe the Cardinals  got their bad week out of the way before the playoffs this year.

The Rangers are obviously disappointed for being eliminated from contention this year, but hopefully our salary cap will increase substantially in 2014 after a 120-40 season.

My predictions for the first round:

Oakland over Boston
Cleveland over New York Yankees
Los Angeles Dodgers over Houston
St. Louis over Washington

Betting against myself, that way I can be surprised if I advance. :o

Good luck guys!

That reminds me that I have to do the W-L adjustments for you to make them more realistic.  I am pretty sure that will translate to a 100 win season.

Is an adjustment needed considering most teams' W-L reflects a 160-game schedule?

Well 1-1 will be added but the WPCT will be brought closer to the 400-600 corridor.

My predictions...

:OAK: Oakland vs. :CLE: Cleveland

:LAD: Los Angeles vs. :STL: St. Louis

Will the Dodgers make it to a third straight World Series for their attempt to three-peat?  Can the Cardinals make their first World Series since 2006.  Oakland and Cleveland, both small-market teams haven't been to the WS since 1990 and 1997, respectively.

That was the model of the FGM Pirates last year.  It works till a point!

My $140M offense with 10 top 100 players: 541 points

Adrian Beltre + Y Molina: 718 points

That is all.

Red Sox and Clevland have got to be displaying worst offensive output in playoff history. Can put a fork in our teams we have no chance in 2 days to overcome that big a deficit

Houston vs Washington

Still too close to call between myself and Paul IMO. I was having 5 starters go today and tomorrow, but with Beckett being traded, who knows if he pitches this weekend.

One good offensive day between either of us could seal it.

I can't decide whether I'm more impressed by four Yankee's hitters with 200+ pts. this week or the Indians laying a turd and hitting in the red.

Holding around a 400 pt. lead on Paul going into tomorrow with 3 hurlers throwing.  Paul has two hurlers, and I'm sure he'll be throwing his best hitters out there with his deep bench.

Should be a tight final day, in the NL at least.

Congrats Jake!  Our pitching didn't show up this week and not much offense either.

My pitching was abysmal also. Gavin Floyd had two starts and pitched 4 total innings. :o

Had a big week from David Murphy, I think he's my new ringer.

Fantrax is down right now...first game is at 1PM EST. I have my lineups set but I know NYY does not. Should we be allowed to retroactive adjust our lineups for today if the issue is not fixed soon?

Should post or PM lineups before gametime to avoid controversy, and then commish could retro actively set as needed.

My best OF, Holliday is up against Gio/Zimmerman/Strasburg this weekend.
My 2nd best OF, Heyward is up against Halladay/Lee/Hamels this weekend.
My best MI, Uggla is also up against Halladay/Lee/Hamels this weekend.

I have my excuses all lined up now if I lose!

I'll be lucky to reach 60 innings this week.

It's an issue if a team has 50IP in the first week then 70IP in the second week.

Why? The IP limit should be 65.

Because for two weeks it would be 130.

Because for two weeks it would be 130.

130 would be fine if the match-up was set for 2 weeks in Fantrax, but it is not.  So back to my original question.  Why do we have to do anything?  The 65 IP limit is appropriate for the current week's match-up.

As discussed in the other thread, we are treating the championship game as 2 weeks matchup. Because I dont know how to set a two week matchup in Fantrax, we will have to manually add the scores together from the two single week games.
