Title: 2013-14 FNHL Over Valued Players (midterm report)
Post by: PigsRule on December 04, 2013, 04:48:09 PM
Having had a look around the league I feel there are fewer players contract that are out of line with reality.
The Amnesty Buy Out last year helped.
The severe drop in salary cap for 2013-14 forced many to make tough choices.

However, some bad contracts continue to live on in Franchise NHL including these...

:WIN: Ilya Bryzgalov, $13.7m (2011-2016) ... at least he's playing again, sort of...
:NYR: Evander Kane, $9.0m (2012-2017) ... again, could've been extended at 6m but lost to FA and resigned
:ANA: Dustin Byfuglien, $9.0m (2011-2016) ... tough to move contract
:SJ: Tomas Vokoun, $8.0m (2011-2016) ... only because he's now on verge of retirement
:MON-NHL: Matt Moulson, $8.0m (2011-2016) ... in superstar range but productive
:MON-NHL: Troy Brouwer, $6.5m (2011-2015) ... FA bidding war contract
:NAS: Paul Statsny, $6.6m (2014-2015) ... overpaid
:PHO: Danny Briere, $6.5m (2014-2015) ... old guy with injury history
:TBL: David Jones, $6.3m (2014-2015) ... leftover FA bidding war contract
:BOS-NHL: Patric Hornqvist, $6.1m (2013-2014) ... will get a decrease in pay next yr
:SJ: Patrick Berglund, $6.0m (2011-2015) ... cheaper options at Center for sure
:NAS: Marcus Folingo, $6.0m (2012-2016) ... FA bidding war contract
:BUF-NHL3: Michal Neuvirth, $6.0m (2013-2014) ... never got the starter's job
:CLG: Artem Anisimov, $6.0m (2011-2015) ... who is this guy??? 6 million!?
:CLS: Jackub Voracek, $5.8m (2014-2015) ... seriously overpaid
:CLS: RJ Umberger, $5.6m (2015-2016) ... overpaid for his production
:COL-NHL: Zach Bogosian, $5.5m (2014-2015) ... if only he would produce like a star!
:NYR: Nick Foligno, $5.5m (2012-2016) ... overpaid
:EDM: Brian Boyle, $5.4m (2013-2014) ... Oilers getting hugh chunk of cap space yr end!
:CLS: Brooks Laich, $5.3m (2012-2015) ... cheaper options, hurt a lot
:BUF-NHL3: Tyler Myers, $5.0m (2014-2015) ... not living up to Calder hype
:NYR: Mikeal Backlund, $4.7m (2012-2015) ... over hyped, overpaid!
:OTT: Dany Heatley, $4.4m (2013-2016) ... really not earning his pay!
:DAL-NHL: Stephen Weiss, $4.3m (2014-2015) ... he's struggling in Motortown!
:PIT-NHL: Brad Boyes, $4.1m (2014-2015) ... there are cheaper options
:NYR: Zybnek Michalek, $4.0m (2012-2015) ... hurt and not earning his pay
:TBL: Tomas Kaberle, $4.0m (2013-2014) ... playing in Czech league
:EDM: Jay Harrison, $4.0m (2013-2016) ... not earning his contract
:NYR: Sheldon Brookbank, $2.6m (2013-2016) ... no name player who could've been picked up on the cheap
:WAS-NHL3: Ty Conklin, $0.6m (2013-2015) ... only because he's been retired for 2-3 years.

We'll keep an eye on these contract throughout the rest of the season and see what happens to them over time.

Vokoun is going to retire if he knows what's good for him. He needs to think about life after hockey. The guy's made his cash and should call it a career. I'd feel bad for Burke if he does.

Kaberle in the CZECH league?????????? WHAT? That guy's still playing. Cheese, cut him loose man!

Conklin. LOL

i guess some contract on the list look worse than they are given the lower cap this season but perhaps next yr they won't look so bad if the cap goes up again.

IMO everyone over $6 million is getting too much cash. But that's just me.
The guys in the 5m range are debatable.

Flames are thinking of following through on the Amnesty B/O of Bryzgalov.
At 13.7 he eats too much valuable cap space even if we have a ton of soon to be freed cap coming our way after the roll over this summer.  :toast: :bacon: :agent: :winner:

Now if the :CLG: Flames win the Cup :win: we might remove his ABO from the list. :disco:

I'll have to think about this again at the end of the Flames playoff run.

Hey, Conklin did a great job coaching up Kari this year. I was pinching pennies, and he saved me money by resigning him. That is ok, I will have plenty of Cap to add depth next year  :disco: I am just glad I don't have a lot of these guys on this list, I couldn't imagine a bigger mess.

LOL

Don't forget Conklin was invaluable as the equipment manager for your Caps too this yr.

My Columbus BJs franchise is up against the ceiling and might have to move a big contract or two to give us enough cash to make changes in August.

However, some bad contracts continue to live on in Franchise NHL including these...
:CLS: Jackub Voracek, $5.8m (2014-2015) ... seriously overpaid
:CLS: RJ Umberger, $5.6m (2015-2016) ... overpaid for his production
:CLS: Brooks Laich, $5.3m (2012-2015) ... cheaper options, hurt a lot

We'll keep an eye on these contract throughout the rest of the season and see what happens to them over time.

Laich is off our payroll.
Umberger might be on the trade or chopping block.
Voracek, well he bleeds Orange and Black so he'll likely stay in the fold.
