Cubs accept. Giving up some nice cheap contracts and prospects, but I don't fully trust Miggy and my current backup CI options so happy to bring Morrison in. Hopefully the improvements last year are legit and then he'll be worth extending. I also have a little SP depth I'm happy with already so this is a win win. Thanks for the easy negotiations Rick.

Franchise GM: Completed Trades / Cubs - White Sox Trade 3-26-18 8:27 am ET« on: March 25, 2018, 10:16:15 PM »
Cubs Trade:
MI Story, Trevor, $0.5m (P-2019) OF Puig, Yasel, $4m (2021) C Jansen, Danny, $0.5m (P-n/a) SP White, Mitchell, $0.5m (P-n/a) White Sox trade: OF Springer, George, $7.5m (2022) OF Abreu, Willie, $0.5m (P-n/a) SP Pop, Zach, $0.5m (P-n/a) Cubs accept. Really happy to bring Springer into the OF. This gives me 4 stud OF once Acuna is up and one will improved my DH slot a lot. I think Story is due for a rebound so he's tough to give up, but with three other MI I should be ok to fill that slot. The rest the prospects are more to make up our difference in valuations. I really like Abreu long term so am ok giving up my catcher of the future and White to make this happen. Thanks for the smooth negotiations ChiSox. 56
Franchise GM: Rules Changes / Re: New Flash: Discussion of 60 Day No Trade Referendum« on: March 21, 2018, 02:07:48 PM »
I'd be for removing the June 1st rule, but don't really care on the 60 day rule. Could go either way on that one. I think it might make sense to remove the 60 day rule for in season FA signings since needs change quicker. But leave the 60 day rule for off-season FA signings to avoid hasty decisions while the lengthy FA process takes place.
Things change rather quickly in FA too depending how bidding goes so I could see removing it there too. Although it seems like the intention is for a more deliberate FA market in FGM, so that may be a good reason to leave it in place in the off-season. Either way though, the in season 60 day rule on FAs seems unnecessary. 57

Cubs accept. These types off trades are always difficult, but I am setup to win now, and have some prospect depth as well, and the $8-9m cap space will be more valuable for acquisitions. I think Garcia and Tillman are essentially dead money this year, so it's been tough to find any takers. Daniel Johnson is probably the prize if he repeats anything like last year, the rest are super young so could go either way although they do have high upsides. I also have C and OF depth closer to the majors so they're expendable. Fraley still has some potential so makes it a little easier. The others I get back are a crapshoot but won't cost anything to roster. Thanks for the smooth negotiations!

Franchise GM / Re: FGM Official Trade Block Thread« on: March 13, 2018, 04:13:08 PM »Cubs have a couple pieces to be had cheaply. SP Tillman, Chris, $6.5m (2018) If you're looking for a short term SP commitment, I'm willing to include a prospect or RP with him as well but can't pay on salary. OF Garcia, Willy, $1.5m (2019) Basically a salary dump at this point, but I can include some prospects or RP to make it worth it for you. 59

are excited for the season. With the trades for Ozuna and Cozart, there wasn't much room left to spend, so the risk of Ohtani seemed like the best gamble to fill our biggest need on the pitching staff. Interestingly, I didn't notice til later the Cubs seem to be cornering the market on Japanese starting pitching with Tanaka, Ohtani, and Darvish leading the staff.
It's been a fun FA period though! Thanks to you admins for keeping on top of the bidding and to GM's for responsible bidding! A lot of teams are much improved it seems and should be a fun, competitive season. 60
Franchise GM: Rules Changes / Re: New Flash: 60 Day Trade Moritorium Rule« on: March 03, 2018, 10:10:32 PM »I’m good with the tweak. I’d even be ok with getting rid of the 60 day rule all together. Or maybe reduce it to 30 days. I know there are reasons we have the rule but real MLB teams are not bound by a time they cannot trade a player. I’m good with whatever the league decides. I agree with all of this. |
