My vote is for Toronto... to overcome the beasts of the AL East is an accomplishment for the Rays of yesteryear and the Orioles and Blue Jays of today.  That was one remarkable free agency run he had last year.

I am voting for the Astros.  The NL Central was a very tough division this year.  Even the Pirates and Cubs posed themselves as threats.

2010 Moneyball Award
This goes out to the GM of the team whose ranking in the league was furthest away from their cap ranking (in descending order).  It has officially been clinched by Robert Miller of the Oakland Athletics.  His team will finish no worse than 8th for a minimum difference of 17. The runner-ups were as follows...

Ben Yergey, Milwaukee Brewers :MIL: (no matter how he finishes he will 2nd - difference as high as 15, low as 8)
Omar Molina, Arizona Diamondbacks :ARZ: - team had a decent run in the 2nd half, difference of 8
Roy Cankosyan, Texas Rangers :TEX: - difference of 7
Colby, Pittsburgh Pirates :PIT: - difference of 6
Michael Bailey, Tampa Bay Rays :TB: - difference of 6
Daniel Valensi, Toronto Blue Jays :TOR: - difference of 6

We gladly accept this award and thank you.  There was no choice with $70M and trying to compete.  Next year it looks like we get a whopping $80M.  I hope we can continue this and make it a tradition.  As the A's GM, I have to make Billy Beane proud.

I would gladly give the award back to have JJ, Coghlan, and others healthy for the playoffs and Morrow throwing as well.

My vote is for the A's. Breweres already had a pretty good team but the A's had so little to start with.

All in all I think my Cubs improved.  It was a year of dealing with big contracts.  I ended up with the grand daddy of them all and a few $7m/year contracts, but I am much better off than where I started.  Picking up Hammel at the end of this year, and ahead of OFA, was key as I am going after pitchers this winter.

I'll go with Kent's Astros for GM of the year.  Kent plays in arguably the toughest division in the league, and managed to hold off two very good teams (Reds and Cardinals) for a shot at World Series ring.  Rob's A's had a much better record, but faced a weaker division, and he's already won the Moneyball award.  I'd like to maintain some diversity with the awards. :koolaid:

Phillies, Astros, Yankees, and Blue Jays all lead their series after one day.  The Phillies and Yankees scored over 300 points in their first day.

My vote for GM of the Year is pending but I have taken it down to three people.

Kent :HOU:, Rob :OAK:, and Daniel :TOR:

The Astros and Blue Jays had a $100m cap whereas Rob had a $70m cap in 2010.  All three of these teams were at or slightly below 0.500 in 2009.

I should have mentioned that Jeff Wren :DET: should be part of the GM of the Year discussion.  Anyways, I have been thoroughly impressed with the job that Daniel did for the Blue Jays.  They had a few good young players and a bad Vernon Wells contract.  He managed to keep a decent farm, bring in free agents that produced, and shed the Wells contract in exchange for other quality players.  He did this with a salary cap of $100m in a division where the Yankees and Red Sox play, not to mention the Rays.

My official vote for 2010 GM of the Year is Daniel Valensi of the Blue Jays.

  • Daddy: Variety is what all of our leagues should be, no two alike. So we as a site can cater to all types. MLB LIVE lost a HOF level GM (Paul) because he doesn't do H2H leagues.

  • TheGOAT: @Daddy, when will NBA Live be in full swing?
    May 15, 2024, 08:09:19 PM
  • Daddy: Its there as an option. $10 entry for a chance to win $100 or double your money. Worst case you're out $10 but no contracts etc.

  • Daddy: @TheGoat starting two leagues next month. NBA could be ready by the upcoming season.
