Title: Introductions
Post by: kenny on August 22, 2011, 08:49:19 PM
Time to break the ice! :toast:

Feel free to introduce yourself in this thread. I know we have a very diverse group of people here based on the conversations I've had with you guys. We have a Dutchman, a Frenchman, a former minor league baseball player, an American living in Cambodia, some younger, some older, some who are familiar with these types of leagues, and others who are going to be doing this for the first time. I'm excited to be running this league.

Yes I know, it's a little corny, but hey, it's a chance for us to get to know one another in this little community.

I'm Kenny, 25, AFB commissioner. Been playing fantasy baseball and football on and off since about 2000. Favorite team is the Mets! I was a civil engineering major in college and am now working as a construction superintendent at the World Trade Center in NYC. Photography is something I enjoy doing and have been spending more and more time on it the past few years.

Glad to be part of this experience. Looks extremely well organized.

I'm Mike 31, originally from Boston but completing my med residency in Montreal, QC Canada. FB is a great escape from the daily grind and a way to keep up with teams. I'm a huge fan of Moneyball so taking on the A's was a natural... glad 28 other guys didn't grab this team before me. lol

Looking forward to lots of activity and deals in this dynasty league! Again, great work setting things up Kenny.

I've been playing FB for going on 9 years now. My favorite team will always be the cubs but in here you will know me as being the GM of the Mariners.

Hopefully we can have a great time together in this league

I'm tarheels55 (Dave Martin)

In here i'm the Texas Rangers just because i'm a baseball fan but grew up a Pirates fan as i grew up 50 miles from there.

I am LOL (OLDER)than most of you guys in here but have been playing 10 years or so because i'm an addict and i admit it.I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and there i played on the baseball team and was drafted in the cardinals organization but decided to stay in college and ultimately played a couple of years in the old Expo organization as a first basemen in their minor leagues in Florida where i married and had kids which took precedent over everything.I now live in NC mountains where i spend my time with grandkids and my Dog Buddy and my wife and the fresh air and all the golf courses i can play.Work comes into play also quite often but there all hobbies.Keep loving sports fellas it is the greatest i can attest to that as i don't know what i would do without it.

By the way that picture of Ramses the mascot of the tarheels that is my son.He is a graduate.

Hey,I'm HJ.
36 years old.Married.Huge Metalmusic Fan.
I'm from the Netherlands in Europe.
Ever since i was a child i loved the 4 major US sport leagues[NBA,NHL,MLB,NFL].
Never had the change to really follow all ins and outs of it though.
A couple of years ago a tv-stationNASN[now ESPN America] began to air these leagues.
Finally i could watch my favorit leagues.
Been totally hooked ever since.
Began playing fantasy a couple of years ago.
Real fun thing to do.
I'm a RedSox Fan,but my nickname kinda gave that away already.
Outside baseball i'm more a NY guy.Knicks[Amare],Islanders,Jets are my teams.
But i don't dislike any team really, just have a sympathy for most NY teams because on a holiday i had the change to visit some of their games.(couldn't get myself to go to a Yankees game though, being a RedSox fan and all.haha)

Here i'm the Astros, trying to get this franchise back on it's feet. :winner:
A challenge,but that's the way i like it.

Hi all,

I'm Dick Granade, GM of the SF Giants.  I may well be the oldest, at 64, in the league.  I'm retired several years now, and as yet have no grandchildren to dote over, which leaves my plenty of time to enjoy fantasy.  I've been involved with fantasy baseball several years, though this is my first experience in a league such as this league.

Never been a Giants fan, but I did enjoy watching the likes of Mays, McCovey and Marichal play in their prime. :)

Looking forward to a fun time in the league and learning along the way.  See, you can teach an old dog new tricks!

Let's see, I guess I am middle of the road here being 33 years old.  I am married and father of soon to be 2 teenage daughters.  I live in Illinois in a super small town compared to some of you with a population of under 9000 people (If you think that is small, when I was in high school I lived in a nearby town of 100 people).  Went to college for almost 5 years but did not finish, some of that was only part time.  Family comes first and that is the reason I did not finish.  I manage a restaurant now.  I think when I grow up that I would like to give farming a try.  Love the country,  not a fan of big cities other than the four lane roads which feels like I am driving for Nascar.  I am a huge Cardinals and Fighting Illini fan.  I enjoy most sports but baseball and college football are my favorite.  I am also not a fan of East coast teams ie.. Jets, Patriots, Red Sox, Yankees, Duke and North Carolina basketball (although I do like Coach K, he is from Illinois) to name a few.  I also root for any team that plays against the U of Michigan, unless Michigan makes it to a bowl game then I want them to represent the Big 10 well. I have been a Marlins fan since their creation and even skipped school to watch the expansion draft back in '92.  I hoping for their sake the new stadium brings in some more fans, otherwise I may talk to the owner and try to move them here where I would get about 9000 to show up for a game. :)

Hi everyone,

My name is James and I'm the new DBacks owner. I'm from Boston and support all the local teams. I do have a bit of a soft spot for the DBacks having cheered hard for them during the world series to beat the yanks.

Seems I'm about midlle of the road age wise among the group, but have been playing fantasy for almost a decade. Typically I only place baseball and love deep leagues so I am looking forward to this one, especially as it seems there are lots of good owners here.

Hey everybody,

Thought I would take a minute to introduce myself.

I am Cris, the new owner of the Royals.  I am 37, married with a wonderful family and live in Columbus, OH.  I became a Royals fan growing up in KC.  Between KC and Columbus, we lived in Salt Lake for a period of time.  This (and FBF) is my first foray into dynasty leagues, but I have been playing fantasy baseball for quite some time off and on.

Looking forward to being a part of this league.  Looks like a great one!

Thanks,
Cris

Hey guys.  My name is Nick.  I'm from small-town central Minnesota.  I've been a die hard twins and vikings fan my whole life.  Unfortunately, neither have won a championship in my lifetime..  I am presumably one of the youngest here at 18.  (I was born in '92 and my twins won it in '91!!!)  I've been playing in dynasty leagues for about 3 years now and love it.  I probably put a bit too much time into my baseball research, but what can I say?  I'm a little obsessed.  I've always dreamed of being a real MLB GM one day, but I probably won't pursue it! ;)

I am in my first year at the University of North Dakota working on an accounting degree.  Unfortunately for me, I'm not a hockey fan.  Here in Grand Forks, hockey is a huge deal and everyone cheers on their Fighting Sioux.

I'm the GM of the Minnesota Twins (by some dumb luck).  I am very open to trades and would entertain any offer!  And I don't consider trading away Joe Mauer as a salary dump!  He'll come back strong, mark my words!!! :)

Hey all!  I'm Eric, 22, and currently in my senior year at the University of Minnesota.  I'm a Recreation and Sport Management major, and I've been a marketing intern for Gopher Athletics for the past two years.  I've always loved baseball and had an opportunity to go play Div III ball, but small private schools weren't my thing, so know I'm hoping to get involved on the other side of things!  I took the Crew because I'm originally from WI, but have always been a big time Braves fan.

I went to Central Michigan University and I currently work for a nonprofit housing agency in Greenville and my wife works for a legal advocacy agency for people with disabilities.

I'm a huge Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings, and Detroit Lions fan and very excited to take part in this league!

Hey guys,

My name is Beau and I'm the new GM for the Pirates.  I'm 27 years old and I'm working in Commercial Real Estate Development in Orlando, FL.  I'm a big time Tampa Rays fan (also a big supported of the Tampa Bucs and Orlando Magic).  I have been active in Fantasy Baseball since 1998 when my team was riddled with names like Scott Kamienicki and Matt Karchner.  I love this game, and I plan to be active in dealing from the very beginning.

I have no connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates or any of their players.  Everyone is immediately on the block (although you can expect to pay healthily for key players).  But for the right price, I will send Pedro Alvarez to your house for birthday parties, weddings, Bar Mitzvahs etc.

PM me with any offers at any time.  Looking forward to the season.

Beau

I am married with three children a daughter 17 years old, one daughter 12 years old and a son that me and my wife adopted 2 and a half years ago he is three now. I am a project superintendent for a commercial construction company that constructs roads, bridges and runways. My wife is a stay at home mother that has done a wonderful job at building a home. My oldest daughter is about to graduate high school and pursue a medical career. My youngest daughter is very gifted athlete that competes in both travel softball as a leadoff center fielder and basketball running the point. My son was born into a bad situation as a crack baby, the son of my wife's niece. She approached me when the boy was 5 weeks old on taking custody of him, we did and never looked back. Thankfully he suffers no ill effects from the girls drug use at this point although when we got him he was a very sickly child. With plenty of work by my wife today he is quite the advanced child. He is a mixed boy, but that does not effect how much we love him.
I am a work-a-holic with all of my time away from work devoted to my family besides the one exception fantasy baseball.Last year because of the demands of my new job I had to find replacement owners for my 2 teams in leagues that I was involved in for years it broke my heart. Now situated at work I once again have the time available to dedicate to my first love, baseball. And I feel I made a great choice in the league I joined.
One last note about myself I am an Orioles fan, I was molded into an Orioles and baseball statistics fan by a grandmother who lives and dies by the Birds. I used to spend everyone of my summers as a kid visiting my grandparents attending minor league ball games in Florida and tracking the Orioles box scores every mourning in the Orlando Sentinel with my grandmother. I was also in Orlando every spring break of my childhood for Orioles spring training collecting great memories and over 700 personally acquired Oriole autographs including over 3 dozen Cal Ripken John Hanncocks. While learning the game of baseball from my grandmother that is such a committed fan that her and my grandfather have never missed a season home opening series, including this year where at the ripe age of 91 made the trek from Orland to Baltimore for this years home opener.
Well I guess I've rambled on enough. I look forward to competing against you guys while at the same time trading in a mutually beneficial manner over the next couple of decades.

As you will see I am a very devoted owner and will take the needed time to make the Detroit Tigers a strong contributor to Dynasty MLB Elite. All of my fantasy experience is in a dynasty and I will apply that to my Tigers, taking the long draw out process in building this team to reflect the type of team I would manage if I was a real life MLB GM. I will give you my honest assessment of the Detroit Tigers in their present form. They have a solid core of young pitchers and some interesting prospects but beyond that the offense in it's present form has no chance of getting me into the post season in 2012. That being said I would like to take this opportunity to let everyone know that I am willing to trade off some of my MLB talent in an attempt to sell some of my now talent to mortgage the future. I plan on constructing the Tigers from the ground up starting with my farm system.

I know I'm a bit late to the show and most people won't care nor read this but I'm going to do this anyway. I'm Josh I think I'm the 2nd youngest at 21. I was born in Seattle but moved to Arlington, TX years ago. For those who don't know Arlington is where the Rangers play. I live 6 miles from the Ballpark. I played FFB in 09' and 10' but forgot to sign up in 11' and this is my second dynasty I've ever played in. When it comes to baseball I love my M's but go for anyone but the Yankees. Speaking of which I will be managing my M's.  I prefer young players i.e. the Stantons, McCutchins, Hosmers, Ackleys, etc. I'm always willing to deal and trade so send me those offfers anytime and I'll look at them and let you know.

Hi,

I'm Brandon, looks like I'm taking over the Rangers.  I've been playing online fantasy baseball in one form or another for about 13 years.  Most of my leagues have been 16-20 team yahoo dynasty/keeper types, but I found a 30 team full minors back in February and fell in love.  I'm glad to be able to find another one.  It should be fun.

As far as sports go, I grew up in the middle of nowhere in Indiana, so beyond the Colts and Hoosiers, I'm a nomad.  I live in Milwaukee, and have attached myself to the Brewers.  I was at the game tonight, sorry if I'm not coherent.  After several beers I tend to think I'm much better at nearly everything than I really am, lol.

Other particulars:  I just hit 35, I've got one daughter, 3 more on the way sometime this offseason.  You read that right.  I tend to be extremely active in trades and such, however that's usually because I'm trying to put together someone else's mess.  I also tend to be sarcastic and have a dry sense of humor.  If I type something in chat and you're debating whether or not to be offended, don't be.  I'm not serious.

I live in Toronto, so naturally my favourite baseball team is the Blue Jays. My favourite hockey team is the Leafs, and my favourite football team is the Patriots. I dont really follow basketball.

I look forward to competing in this league with all of you, too bad I joined after the trade dedline, but as soon as the offseason starts, get ready for me to fill up your inboxes with trade offers.

New Rockies GM
Well I thought I would introduce myself first before I dive head first into turning the Rockies in to a contender.  My name is Blake and I am 35 years old and live in Iowa.  I am a teacher and married with a three year old daughter.
I have been playing fantasy baseball for about 9 years and this is my first at a league this deep and complex but looking forward to it and will give it my best shot.

Good luck to all and if I make a mistake please don't hesitate to tell me about it as I try not to make the same mistake twice.

Hello Everyone,

My name is David Fitzgerald and I'm the new owner of the Reds. Happy to join the league. Hope you can all bare with me while I learn how to navigate the website and the league.

I've got over 20 years of fantasy sports experience and I love the idea of a dynasty league with minor league systems. It's going to take me a little while to get the lay of the land and study the rules and the rosters of my fellow owners.

Hopefully I can be competitive and give you veterans a run for the title. I think I have a good team with some assets to trade. Looks like my team is in a little bit of a salary-cap issue, so give me a little time.

If you offer me a trade, please tell me what team you own so I can study your roster before making any decisions. I'm a chess-player, so I calculate every move into the future of my team.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and the league...and then watch out. I'm coming for you all.
