Seattle to name Francis GM!?
« on: July 18, 2019, 03:17:11 AM »
He's the same guy who signed Scott Darling to that 4yr $16.6 million deal right?!?
His version of the Canes never made the postseason.
Not sure why Seattle wants to start off wallowing in the league gutter. They have every chance to start their franchise on a winning path the way Vegas did. Hope Francis has a better run as GM in the West.

They are trying to copy Vegas. George McPhee never won with the Caps and then lost a cup final against them. Ron Francis is about to lose Seattle's first cup final against the Hurricanes.

4 years and 16.6m is nothing compared to some of the contracts given to bum goalies in FNHL...

All GMs make questionable decisions now and then. Except you and me, BB.  :win: :win: :winner:

The Darling deal was pretty awful.
I'm not sure Francis has the experienxe to lead the expansion process in Seattle. Yzerman or Holland could've been an exciting choice.

What was Ron Francis's greatest accomplishment as an NHL GM again?

I think I read somewhere that he was behind drafting Sebastian Aho in 2015 35th overall.

Another writer said dealing Sekera to the Kings for a 2016 1st rounder (Julien Gauthier 21st overall) and Roland McKeown.

Then there's landing Teravainen and Bickell from the Hawks for a 2nd and 3rd.

At a very high-level I have to say Francis may know his talent when he sees it. But over the span of 4yrs as a GM nothing stands out (especially missing the playoffs every year he was in charge) and makes me think Seattle will start off the way Vegas did but then again, few people thought VGK would kick butt and reach the Stanley Cup finals in their inaugural season.

4 years in Carolina showed me Francis needs more seasoning as a GM. Guess that's what he'll get in Seattle.

:thumbsup::iatp: Couldn't agree more. Personally I feel Francis has the makings of a great head of player development and spotting talent. Pulling it all together isn't what Francis is at this stage of his GM career.

Time will tell whether Ron Francis can step up and lead the Seattle franchise out of the gate and straight to the top of the standings the way Vegas did.
