With the imminent outright loss of Wilson, we felt it was best to get a deal done. It's pretty much the 11th hour at this point and we feel we can move forward with this deal. Since the last Canes owner sold the farm (my guess is he had an "All In" "Win now!" strategy), we need to rebuild and restock our

Georgia Thrashers with some fresh bodies. Thanks to EndGame and the Anaheim Ducks for working with us on getting this deal done.

This one hurts because we didn't have the cap space to resign Wilson before the start of the off season and the increase to skater extensions took effect yesterday.

Canes will use the 10% cap overage and resign:
RW - Tom Wilson, $1.8m (2017-2020) 5yr extension contract $10.0m (2020-2025)

He is a beast and seems to be getting better, stronger, faster and meaner!

Carolina would like to rename our minor league team the Georgia Phoenix using the old Thrashers logo.
Phoenix just seems appropriate for a farm team that's meant to generate talent for the parent club.
