WHO TO PROTECT IN EXPANSION DRAFT?

I will add a few questions, mostly about timing:

Will there be a grace period between the finals and the deadline to protect players ? I found that trading opens back up.

Definitely. Expansion Draft will happen 1 wk before the 2017 August FNHL Contract Rollover period. So about 2wks before FNHL Free Agency starts, the FNHL Expansion Draft will take place publicly in an expansion draft thread.

So everyone's got liek 2.5 months to get their rosters ready for expansion draft exposure.

We may need to space it out to allow 2 wks from the end of the Expansion Draft to the start of Free Agency.
Vegas needs time to draft.
FNHL Commish needs time to verify eligibility of Expansion Draft players picked by Vegas.
Time to clean up rosters for teams and Vegas.
Time to rollover all team contracts.

Thinking ahead Vegas Expansion Draft might take 3-5 days to complete. Just saying it might be longer than usual to get FA rolling or Expansion Draft might take place sooner.

Ok question and this may have been covered already. Rookies and second year players are exempt from the expansion draft. So when is a second year player a 3rd year player? Lets use Connor McDavid as an example, when does he become a 3rd year guy? First day of the new season (2017-18) or after this current season ends?

easy.  Any Entry level deal signed 2015 or later is exempt

Some teams signed Prospects to 1yr deals and might have to dig up proof that their young active roster player is exempt because it might not be obvious from their current non-Entry Level contract.

Just out of curiousity. Would players like Labanc who were drafted in the late rounds of previous entry drafts(but not by a team in FNHL) have been eligible to be picked in the one we had in September or is the draft restricted to guys drafted by NHL teams that year?
